My car's been sitting awhile in my garage not starting. I tested to see how many volts it had.. is 2/10's of a volt good enough? :P Today I trickled charged it so that not to put a huge charge into it that it would fry the bat..let it sit a few minutes then tried to start it. I got it up enought to get it started but it would only last about a few seconds. I let it sit a little more, still charging, then tried to start it again and it didnt work. Oil's fine, has enough gas (i think) no kill switch or anything like that. Im gonna buy a small battery and keep at it, any suggestions on what to buy? I really dont wanna take it to a shop or anything. Just the basics. Any other problems that could be wrong? Thanks guys :D

Sounds like the battery.. take it to autozone/murray's and tell them to test it.

If it starts, then dies... the car is running off of your battery. That means your alternator system isn't working.

yeah you could do it pretty easily, but it could be something other than the alternator. I'm not familiar with testing methods of the whole system though.

Autozone will test that too, did you check the belt?

to test to see if its your alternator ..get the car started if possible...while running take either the pos or neg cable off off your battery, if the car stalls its your alt....they are very easy to put in,lemme know if you need more help

My mechanic put a switch on top my battery to try and start it without having to charge it. Im gonna try and take it off and then charge it

I charged the car for a little and it was going fine, but the needle stopped moving on the charger. So i took off the clamps and tried to start it, everything lit up on the dash and the windows started to roll down. So i walked to the front of my car and heard a sort of loud constant ticking noise coming from my alternator. It went away a little bit after i put the clamps back on then the needle on the charger shot all the way up to where the 10 amp charge is supposed to be, since im doing it on 2 amp which was really weird. So i reattched the clamps and it did the same thing. I dont know what the freak is wrong with it, im gonna have my mechanic friend tow it to his shop and look at it.

you sure you didn't hook the charger up backwards, this is very bad for computers from what I hear. I'm not calling you an idiot or anything but, I remember jumping of my dads car a long time ago, he got the cables mixed and it cost him an altenator, battery, cables, fuses, and computer.
but then again, my starter relay on my thunderbird I had went bad and the same kind of stuff happend to me that happend to you except my starter kept running, does anyone know if mitsu has a starter relay for that matter? I don't fool around to much with wiring.
