reverse lights dont work

i have fog lights for reverse lights as well as my regular tail light reverse lights and neither seem to be working any more. i have checked the fuses and i quickly cheked the wiring. both looked fine, any suggestions?

check the reverse light switch, chances are its hooped. if you are using auxilliary backup lights, you should put them on a seperate relay, triggered by the stock b/u lights. this way the switch does not have to handle so much current, and will not burn out.

It could be corrosion on the T connection near the rear bumper, a lot of the time all it needs is some dielectric grease

you might also want to try checking the switch in the column, if it has one, i have an 88 C/K 2500 and you have to wiggle the gear shift a bit for the reverse lights to come on

If you have a standard, I believe that you may have sensor/switch on the tranny and it might be bad or need adjustment

How would you go about checking or adjusting the sensor/switch on a manual transmission? Where is it located?

I believe the sensor is located on the top of your transmission, look for some wires. This sensor is basically a plunger switch that has a couple o-rings and nylon washers, it may be stuck and the circuit is not being closed because it does not have its complete travel path. Sorry for the late reply. If you replace it, check to make sure it moves freely before putting it it.

Mine has been out for 4 years now on my 96. It is a manual transmission. I know for a fact that it is the switch on the side of the tranny. I was able to get the wiring harness plug to come off the switch. When I turned the key onn and shorted across the wire, I got lights. I checked the switch and was never able to get the switch to close. The unfortunate part is that replacing the switch on mine involves dropping the tranny, you can't get to the bolt that holds it in. I'll replace it when the clutch goes.

If you can get it working, I would also recomend a relay for your 2nd set of backup lights.
