I currently have a 1988 Bird (just the regular coupe) with a V6 3.8L (no mods) and I have been looking every where to find the top speed for this car (both goverened and not). Does anyone know these speeds? Any help is greatly apreacated. Thanks.

Mine would do 118 before it cut out. I also know that with the digital dash set on standard (mph) it would stop reading at like 88 or so. I used to flip it to the metric (kph) reading and would keep climbing and would have to convert kph to mph. Just thoughts......

nothingleft, does your car have the 80 mph dash like my 91 does? I wouldn't even know how fast I was going after 80.
there was a digital dash on sale on ebay, I don't know if it's still there but you might want to look. however that thing requires a computer change if I'm not wrong because it has a lot of extra features that aren't in the standard coupe.

Hi. My car has a 85mph dispaly. Its the same one at this site
http://www.coolcats.net/tech/general/clusters/base.html
I'm not quite sure if it is the same one thats in your car. I'm not to familiar with the 90 models and up. Thanks for the ebay tip though I checked but I did not see it. I wonder if I can swap it for a analog display out of a 2.3L Turbo or one of the newer 5.0s. No mater what I do to it I probally will have to put a new computer in it.

The v6's are goverened around 110-130 the computers aren't the most accurate thing on these cars so one might bounce of the governor while anohter might not have enough juice to hit it.
BTW you can remove your governor with one snip of a wire, PM for more info, cuz if your interested i'll have to go figure it out again ha ha.

I wouldn't doubt it, mine would go around 115 into a strong wind stock, I've got no doubt that with a tailwind it would hit 130.
