Yes and no. Most cars actually have a nuetral switch that people are not aware of. It is simular to the ones that motorcycles have. The trick is to find a REAL remote start installer that can find it. The other is to use motion sensor that will trigger the RS to shut off when the car starts to move. There are some cheaper remote starters like Crimestopper I think that has a RS designed for MT cars. The bad thing is that you have to go through a lot of hoops each and every time you exit the vehicle to get the RS to work the next time you want it to.

In some US versions of manual cars there are safety devices that prevents the car to be started with the gear in and clutch pedal out, otherwise the starter can go even with the gear in (it's often good when the car can be driven on the starter motor if the engine stalls in a really bad place like on a rail road crossing).

On newer cars the engine management system does also require a signal from the anti theft device that the key is OK before the engine is allowed to be started. For this to be done the electronics in the key must be in place.
