A rant about riced up posers

Ok so I bought my 91 hatch about 2 months ago. It looked ok, was lowered, has an annoying muffler, and had a couple of other little things like tinted windows and sport pedals. A nice start I figured, since I wouldn't have to spring for the coilovers and whatnot. So yesterday I wind up rolling over this big ass piece of asphalt that comes rollin into the street (and if i find the kids that did it they are paste) and I slam over it. Not bump, not grind, SLAM. My car jolts twice and then I hear the muffler rattle. Just as a precautionary measure I take it down to midas where a buddy of mine is the manager. we toss it up on the lift to make sure I didn't fuck anything over. Aside from a couple scuffs on the fuel tank and a slight dent in the muffler everything looked ok. Then we get to the FUN part:
My muffler is just that, a plain old fucking muffler. The annoying sound is because the asshat put a resonator tip on it, nothing more. Factory piping and everything.
The car DOES NOT have a lowering kit in it, they chopped the springs and redrilled the holes! As a result of this not only do I need to get some new springs (who knows how bad they might have fucked this up) but the wheels are spaced out a little from the body, and if I turn the wheel too far the tires will rub the fender.
So basically I now have a factory civic with a resonator tip, tinted windows, and knock off "racing" pedals.
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH FUCKING POSERS!!! JUST SAY NO TO RICE!!!

Definitely sucks about all that mickey mouse shit done to your car.. Should've checked it out before you bought it, but im not going to lecture you cause no one likes that shit. when I was new to the game, (I had a jetta at the time) I cut the springs and it was slammed to the ground. it looked sick but rode like ass, and the springs would jump out of place every now and then and "bang back into place". I literally had no front suspension; had about half an inch of it. I rode through the parking lot of the speed shop on my way to buy real springs (yeah i put 2 & 2 together) and hit a speed bump that i wasnt aware of--the front end jolted so hard my head almost busted through the sunroof. I had a headache after...go figure. My jetta wasnt ricey though (no stickers, huge spoilers, etc...,) Moral of the story--do it right the first time and dont be cheap(and learn from your mistakes.)

If kids want to rice up their cars, they need to stay to the cars true form. This is something I've told my friends and classmates and it's actually my moto: "Always get something that serves a purpose!" Cleartails and resonater tips serve no purpose except that you know nothing about cars!

Wait hold on, usually rice means puttin gaudy graphics, wings, fucked up chrome wheels, cuttin your springs, stickin a tip on your exhaust, shit like that, I think you should replace RICE with MOD, theres nothing wrong with moddin your car, and I agree, you should mod it with taste. But I doubt that keepin your car clean, and "true to its form" would be called rice. I'm not startin a fight or anything, I'm just sayin...does that make sense?

I didn't know as much about modding cars then (not like I know that much more now) so I didn't know what to ask. He said it had coilovers and a high flow muffler, so I think he was either lying out his ass, or didn't know what the prior owner did.
couldn't tell much on the ride, the roads near where I drove it are actually pretty good, so there wasn't much to base it off of, next time I buy a car, it's potholes and speedbumps.

i doubt it. it's not IF the interior is painted...it's HOW. his interior was painted ghetto style. lets put it this way...the previous owner used the SAME CAN of spray for the interior, valve cover, and the rims. because it is (who knows what kind) crappy paint it is flaking off the panels. it looks fine and dandy in pics, in person it looks like @ss crack.
now on the other hand...there are people like ci5ic who take time & pride in their work.

See for me when it comes to the interior i'm an all or nothin kind of guy. I'm cool with different parts having different colors (seats different from dash) but having different insets like vent housing, speaker panels etc different from the rest just doesn't do it for me. Though Ci5ic did do a nice job, i've looked at the rest of his pics, his custom fiberglass work is quite nice.

I thought I'd correct you about the Eclipse; I assume you are refering to the motor. As we all know, DSM = Diamond Star Motors, a colaboration between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Now, the RS GS, etc Eclipses (the non-turbo ones, as well non- turbo'd Talons and Lasers) have a chrysler motor, a Neon Motor to be exact. I agree with you here...these cars are a chrylser under the hood, no matter what the badge says. I wouldn't waste my time getting one. They are just a pretty Neon. However, the Turbo'd Esclipses (and the other turbo'd DSM's) have a 4G63 motor. We better recognize this Mitsubishi motor as the samer one in the Lancer Evos. I wouldn't call all Esclipses a Chrylser, only the N/A ones. The 4G63 motor in the GS-T and GSX is far from Chrylser, it's one heck of a motor. The only Eclipse route I'd go is GS-T or GSX.

I like a car to look bone-stock..except for aluminum rims and other fancy equipment offered on the nicer models by the same manufacturer.
Why? I can't stand talking to police...and judges...and attorneys.
Except for the way I drive, I try not to attract attention. No loud stereo. No stickers, not even bumper stickers.
I don't like anything that'll stick in the mind of a witness if I ever have to make a run for it.
And if that ever happens, I want a reliable car to get me where I need to go.

I've heard a lot of horror storys about the 97 and 98 year model engines... haven't researched it or anything, but I heard something about a '7 bolt motor' being defective, and people usually having to swap in a japanese '6 bolt motor' to fix and avoid the problem.... not sure exactly what that means cause I haven't researched it any, but that's what I get word of mouth.
But if the cost of FINDING the car for less than a 'fast and the furious' price and the cost of changing out defective motors is so high... I don't see any reason to get my girl an eclipse.... I'd rather get her something like a Del Sol... something I know I can fix fairly easy IF it breaks. I don't even care about the amount of 'rice' on it, as I'm sure I'd be doing an assload of work to it anyways in order to keep her eyes on it and stop her dreaming about an eclipse.

Yeop. Some 7 bolt 4g63's never have crankwalk but then again others do. Its just kind of a wait and see situiation. The 6 bolt 4g63's never had a problem with crankwalk and that is why many people put 6 bolts in their 2g eclipse.

I'm assuming you all know what crank walk is...
1st gen 7-bolts do not have the problem, only 2nd gen. So far the best guess as to the problem is sticky piston oil squirters. the 2nd gens changed to that the oil sqirters are run off the main bearings instead of the main oil galley. At idle wth the clutch in the thrust bearing sees the highest load and lowest oil pressure. With the oil squirter stuck open, it may starve. There are two fixes for this, one is to modify the block to accept 6-bolt style squirters wich are bolted in (instead of pressed) and run off the main galley, the other is to remove the squirters (which many 6-bolt owners do anyway, for safety).
Plugging the squirters is an easy job, any machine shop could do it during a rebuild easy.
