okay so i have decided that my first step (well, one of them) to optomizing my 93 escort lx was to reinvent the sound system, currently all speakers are blown and its using only some CHEAP walmart style speakers to keep it on its feet, sorta. so i need to replace EVERYTHING and i have to get some subs, everything. i was wondering what you guys and girls were using for your system, i really need ideas on what speakers to get, i just cant decide. i plan on playing alot of heavy metal/rock and some hip hop, so bass is pretty important but i dont want a muddy sound, so any ideas would be nice, and i promise not to steal anyones set up! :)

sup dude...I put my system in my '99 LX...I spent $250 total. I've got 4-10" pyramid subs 400W a piece for $50 total, from the manufacturer. They came brand new in the plastic. I'm pushing them (underpowering) with a Legacy 800W amp bought off a friend for $100. Then the three boxes (one double two singles) for $50 total from a stereo shop. Oh yeah, add 20 bucks for the wiring kit. Spliced it into my stock stereo and it sounds AWESOME. For deals on EVERYTHING...go to www.cmttrading.com, great used stuff, LOW prices...lotsa new stuff too...check it out!

The first thing you might want to do is look through a crutchfield catalog or go online www.crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com) and get a feel for what you're looking for as far as head units and regular speakers and then go online and read reviews on different decks and speakers. I've listened to several different speakers(at the demo setups like at circuit city and even at pep boys) and the Pioneers sound incredible and aren't too expensive. Alpine Type-R's are THE best but are very pricey. As far as deck units, I like panasonic, i think they make solid CD players at reasonable cost, you should be able to get a good deck for 100 bucks or less. Check www.carreview.com (http://www.carreview.com) and www.epinions.com (http://www.epinions.com) for reviews. epinions also compares prices for you among online stores.

I just went to circuit city a few days ago and bought an Alpine CDA-9831. So far, i have had no problems and it puts out great sound, I blew out the stock speakers on my car the first day. It was a little on the expensive side, but I must say, its worth it. ($399.99)
