Escort Starting Problem

Hello all,
I have a 93 escort that recently died on me. The car was running at what seemed to be close to perfect condition. Then one day while driving car it all of a sudden cut off (just the engine...the lights and so on were still on). When i pulled to the side to take a look at what might be the problem, I noticed that when i tried to crank the car the fuel cutoff light came on on the dash and the engine did sound dry as if it weren't getting any fuel at all. I checked the fuel cutoff switch in the cargo area and it seemed to be working (wasn't loose and didn't need to be reset) When i went under the hood i checked to see if the fuel line going into the engine was infact pumping fuel into the engine. It wasn't sending any fuel at all. I then went ahead and changed the fuel pump and fuel filter. Now the engine's getting gas, all the plugs are firing, the engine doesn't sound as dry as before and yet it still won't turn over.
At the point i'm confused. I've even called Ford to see if they could give me some insight. All they could tell me was that it's a known problem with the escort and to bring it in. Now i'm not going to take in my escort to the dealer for them to charge me 45 dollars to look at it just to tell me in the end "Your car's having a problem starting"lol...If anyone out there can lend some insight i'd be very grateful.

your airflow sensor maybe? try replacing it, make sure theres no obstructions in front of or behind it. that's all i can think of off the top of my head...oh, check injectors (assuming its FI).

im not sure exactly on a 2nd gen....I know that it is on the intake somewhere between the air filter and the throttle body....I'll give JeffEscortLX a private message...he knows his stuff and I know he can help you...

Check your ignition module. It should be on the drivers side near the firewall (I had another car to switch it out with). You may want to check your ignition switch. I am sorry but I am not sure how to do this. I thought I tested mine and discovered that it was good but then the mechanic said it was bad. You could try putting some (spoonful) oil in your cylinders and see if it will start. Sometimes when you cannot get the car started because the cylinder walls get washed down with fuel and you lose oil pressure.

yea my car is having the same problem. I know for a fact that there's no gas coming ouT of my fuel injector. Then when someone sprayed fas down into my throttle body the car would crank up and then cut right back off. So maybe u should see if anyone of these things is wrong with your car and also check to see if your fuel pump is burnt out. Oh yea i also changed my fuel pump too. It seems there's no gas getting to the front of my engine.

I've heard bad things about fuel injectors being dry and rusting in no time flat, but I've never witnessed it.
If there's no fuel getting to the motor, has the shrader valve been checked to see if the fuel rail has pressure?
If it has pressure, then there are only two possibilities, the injectors aren't working due to them all being plugged up, or the computer quit sending the signal (Electrical) Can't help you with the electrical,.
The local parts U-Pull-it place can get you another set for about $30 ~ish. It doesn't take long to change the injectors to varify that they are plugged. You'll need a little vasaline for O-ring lube, don't worry about new seals (O-Rings) yet. Varify the fix first. Count on changing the injectors twice, if they "fix" it.

Deejay... sound to me like your timing belt broke. An easy check... take off the valve cover and then crank the engine... if the valves don't move, you need to repair the timing belt. Being a '93 it is time anyway.
