You're probably talking about the Evo '8.5' MR. The MR stands for 'Mitsubishi Racing,' and this version of the Evo is almost like an Evo 'CSL,' in terms of the transformation being similar to the M3 CSL.
The MR gets a bit more power than the standard Evo VIII, about 285hp. It also gets a revised Bilstein suspension, lighter BBS wheels and updated software for the AYC and ACD. The MR also has an aluminum roof panel, air diffusers above the rear window, and in the picture I saw, it appears that the entire wing may be made from carbon fiber.
The MR may be coming to the US as an '05 model, and could be priced at ~$33k. It would do a fine job of filling out the Evo lineup in the States.Road and Track has a new magazine called Speed, and has the MR on the cover. They managed to get a 4.3 second 0-60 out of it.

Wait....so just to clear things up, that's not the Evo 9, right? Well, I guess it really can't be, because the body is the same as that of the 8...not to mention that theres no way in hell Mitsu is gonna put that on a reg. stock evo. Oh well...where's that 9...

Mitsi has issued several press releases stating that there will not be another Evolution Lancer, so there will be no EVO 9.
Instead they are going to build a WRC car based on the Colt/mirage platform, which means the next EVO will be a Colt/mirage and the Lancer/Cedia will be left with only a GSR model for the Japanese market.

Well, that due in part to the fact that the US didn't get Evos I-VII. It'd look pretty stupid, wouldn't it?
