Stock 97 GSX vs 93 3KGT SL?

Perhaps the most general bench racing thread ever. But to answer your question, stock for stock the GSX would win easily. It would take the SL off the line since its an AWD vs FWD and the eclipse is already much lighter. Then the turbo + the weight would pretty much keep it ahead and pulling as the race went on. If you plan on racing one, your only hope is that its an ATX with a broken turbo and a blind man driving it.

so there is no way a stock SL can beat a GSX stock? the sl has like 12 or 8 more hp but the thing is it weights 200-300 lbs and the GSx awd vs fwd. so i dont know

Well, the biggest factor in a race is the driver so race to race its possible, but the GSX is the faster car in equal hands.

well there are a few things to remember here. First off, the SL is a FWD and the GSX is an AWD. When the SL launches, its weight tends to shift towards the rear, taking traction away from the front wheels. this is why FWD is harder to get a good launch than AWD or RWD, because with any of the latter, the weight is shifting to wheels that drive the car, giving it better traction thus better takeoff. Also, the SL is about 300 pounds heavier, and then you have to add in the driver. If you've got a big-ass mofo like me who's 280 pounds, well, that's an extra 280 pounds. Also, although the SL and GSX may be within 10-12 horsepower of each other, i've found that turbocharged horsepower is faster than normally aspirated power. For instance, a 210hp Turbo engine will spool up faster and run faster than an n/a car who's engine puts out 210hp. it's just a fact that n/a engines take longer to rev through their powerband than turbo engines, cause they don't have that extra pressure that the turbocharged cars do. If that didn't matter, then a 250hp Dodge Intrepid with the 3.5L V6 would be able to outrun, or at least hang with, a 230hp SRT-4. But will that ever happen? HAHA Hell no! The SL will get owned in this race, sorry. It's got too many things going against it.

not completley true, for instance you have the camaro Z28 against the 300zx, thats a pretty close run actually pretty even, theres exceptions for your theory, but for the most part sounds pretty true

heheh, yeah, a big 5.7L V8 with gobs of torque and RWD will definetely be the exception. Most big V8's will be the exception, my theory was directed more towards the smaller 4's and 6's. Of course, though, stock SRT-4's will run bumper-to-bumper with the Z28's and SS's. So there are exceptions to the exceptions. ;) lol but for the most part in the smaller engines, my theory tends to prove true more than false.

I would put money on it that with the best drivers each car could have to offer, stock for stock...SRT-4 Vs. SS.....SS would kill it, hands down. Ive seen stock SS pull high 12's at the strip...its all driver and launch...now as for the SRT-4. Best stock times I have seen for it are like 13.2-13.4's, those are common. But the LS1, that is an insane engine. Now you throw a WS6 into this mix, and I know your SRT-4 cant hang. But, what I find so funny about this neon, several people on this site with VR-4's have already beaten them, and I know people on here have much more fear and trouble with the big f-bodys with their LS1's....
