Hey all,
Recently, I have had a problem with my odometer reading going haywire and flickering whenever I go over a slight bump. Sometimes when I go over a huge bump or pothole, nothing will happen, but other times it goes crazy. Is it just a loose wire or something more serious that that?

most of the time this happens there's an internal problem with the cluster which requires having the dealer send it out. before you condem the cluster check the harness plug on the back sometimes the connection gets loose and you can bend the pins slightly to fix it. does it do this all the time or only when the lights are on? check the conection at the dash dimmer(thumbwheel) too

i also have the same thing happening to my 2000 sunfir what i am going to do is take the dash apart i was told that it may be just the pins that are not connection propley and to give then a slight bend and connect the plug back into them i have not yet had time to do thsi but i will in the near future as its alot of work just getting the dash of these things .

You will have to get the entire gauge cluster replaced as I had to. Apparently it's a known problem in Sunfires... why they don't tell anybody is beyond me. It cost me $600 CDN including taxes. I wouldn't be driving around with no gauge at all.... get it fixed now.
Mine is fixed and running great.

I'm looking at a 2000 cavalier...and it too has something wrong with the cluster, although it still keeps track fine of the km's... buying it as is and fixing at a later date..needs rear struts but rather do them myself than pay someone 300 dollars...lol...they quoted me between 400-600 CDN. Not positive im getting this car yet..hopeful..i love it..and i love the color..haven't seen too much of it around here..Cayenne Red. What do u guys think is a reasonable price on this car? 2000 cavalier vlx.

oh yeah well mine does it a lot more than that most of the time you cant read the numbers...the odd time it will go solid and you can read them. I haven't tried giving it a whack..lol...ill probably make it worse..hehe :D
