Hey I got an '87 Camaro Sport Coupe LT.
It has a 173 ci 2.8L V6 - I don't have loads of money,
so I'm trying to make the most power w/ the least cost.
(as I'm sure I'm not alone :) ) Now I've been torn as to rebuild
by engine and then milk the most power possible out of it...or
swap it for a 305 or 350. I really hope for a min of 300 horse
after I make major change and then a gradual rise in power from
there. I've been thinking that keeping the 6 would put a real cap on
my power limit, but it might not be so. Right now my car puts out
roughly 150hp maybe less with the trans. dragging a bit.

so if there are any good ideas...

well if you are already considering swapping to a v-8 then i would say go with the swap. it will end up being more expensive but in the long run, it will be worth it. i really dont think that you are going to get 300 or more out of the 2.8, and i dont think they make many parts for it to begin with...

dont waste your money on a V6, 300hp is a stretch for a 2.8. it's probly easiest to get a car with a V8, the wiring harness and prom are different. but a swap can be done, a small block from a junk yard is probly around $100. but a swap also includes alot of things from springs, to accessory brackets, hoses, exhaust, etc. uhmmm...nitrous?

well, as far as performance parts for a 2.8, i think your gonna have a hard time finding em. but with a rebuild, you can always bump the compression, use anti friction coatings as througholy as possible, thermal coatings on the combustion chambers, port and polish the heads, put a crank scraper in it, as far as 300hp out of that little six, your only option will be forced induction. and i wouldnt want to ride in your car anytime you were gettin on it, cuz i wouldnt trust that little 2.8 as far as i could throw it under boost. so if your lookin for performance, your gonna have to bite the bullet and get a V8, just not much to do with the sixer. i mean, you could probly break 200hp, which would match the 3.8L V6, and put you above most 305 contenders. just dont know how long the engine would last is all.
