Engine Swap Question

I own an 89 Honda Civic HB. It's not an Si or DX, just plain civic. I was wondering which engines I could dump with little or no hassle. I was looking at a JDM B16A SiR1 V2 but I would like more power. What other engines will work? Will a type R?

I'm pretty sure it's a D15A.

depending on your budget. Let me know what you will be wanting to spend then you can decide on which swap to drop in

A jdm b16a1 will drop in for about 1300 where a Type R is gonna run you about 4-5,000. Its a big price diff. but your going from a 160hp cable tranny to a 200hp high compression LSD tranny !both will need a mount kit and shift linkage to drop in. Altho the linkage usually comes with a full swap. there are a few good choices in between, like sal said its all a matter of your budget and what you want to get out of the vehicle.

if you want a straight drop in, get yourself either a DOHC ZC(130hp) or the JDM D15 VTEC(around 130hp)

Well, let's say I'm willing to pay $5,000. Then if I have all the necessary equipment, such as shift linkage, ecu, tranny etc., then I can dump the Type R?

You'll still have to wire for VTEC and the Type-R transmission is hydraulic - you'll have to make a conversion to use the hydraulic transmission.

A first generation B16A will have a cable transmission and will be a more practical engine budget-wise. I would pick that or the DOHC ZC motor personally.

B16a1 one is best...

i'd suggest if you honestly have 5g's to drop in do the b16a1 and do some internals. so you don't lose any streetability. if you are like the majority of us and only have what you make and a few extra bucks. drop in the zc and put a turbo or 50 shot of juice you won't be disapointed either way.

Also you sound like you have the 4 speed STD you'll have to swap out steering hubs and knuckles to do any swap cause the axels won't fit. and you'll have to do the wiring..... zc wiring is not too bad nor is the b16. the zc takes about 2 hours start to finish the b16 takes like 3.

Don't forget you'll want to get a better exhaust since your pipes are like 1 1/2 inch and the extra's that can cost up to 1000 just to make it run well on a budget. do it right so you don't get a money eater nor a piece.

i'd suggest the d15 Jdm vtec i've never done the swap but i've seen a car with it and it runs well
