i was talking with a guy the other day witha 95 prelude and he said his car was all wheel steering , i didn't believe him since i had never heard of this in a prelude. he showed me and started truning his wheel and the back wheels turned as well as the front ones. well i was wondering what years this option came in and why did honda take it off after a certain year. it reminds me of passive rear steering on a 88 crx si. i just wanted some info on this.

Ummm... Honda introduced the 4ws option on the 88 Prelude. The 3rd gen's 4ws was completely mechanical, but the 4th gen's system was electronic.

It's funny, but in the Drivers Manual for my 98 lude, it's got references all over the place to 4WS and stuff...
just makes me wonder ;)

Well, I was unsure about the 5th gens (whether they were available with 4ws or not), but drift was saying that 4ws was not available on US 'Ludes until the mid-4th gen model. Most people I know who currently own 3rd gens (all of them 88-91) have 4ws on their car. Whatever the case, if you are looking to buy a Prelude, I strongly suggest looking for one with 4ws; it's pretty cool. BTW, on the 3rd gen, before Honda made it electronic, the 4ws unit between the back wheels almost looks like an AWD unit, like what they use in a CR-V.

actually I bet drift was referring to the fact that a vtec 4ws prelude was never released in the states. But we'll let him clarify.;)
