what year does a car have to be not to have to pass emissions? pre-1978? also, if i swap a new engine into a non-emissions camaro would i have to pass emissions... and last, if put an old engine :screwy: (pre-emission) into a newer camaro(emission), does it have to pass emissions?

I'm not sure on the emissions year, but if you put a new engine in a pre emissions car then it still is pre emissions, and if you put an old engine in a new car then it does still have to pass emissions.

not sure as to what year is the drop off for emissions, i think it has to be 25+years old. but im not sure.
as far as engine swaps, youll have to check your state laws, with the DEQ, in va your emissions have to match whatever is newer, the car or the engine.

in va we do. and speaking of, i finally got the IROC put together enough to run the sniffer. and damn, i love that car. hasnt been emissions tested in 14 years, and in the first run, CO was 0%, HC were a 20 out of 120, and the NOx failed cuz my EGR diaphram was busted, so i put a new EGR in it, and DAMN shes running soooooo much better, in all respects, shes gonna fly through emissions with flying colors, and the first run, was with three plug wires burnt and arcing onto the headers.... have to find a way to reroute those damn things again. lol. but well worth it.
