It is the idea of the minority forcing the majority into a situation they don't want. If the majority wanted to enlist, they'd do so, they don't need people to force them to do what they want to do. I believe the rules are tighter now than last time - including not being exempted by higher learning as well as going to Mexico and Canada.

Actually I think what keeps enlistment numbers down is the opportunity to make a better living outside the military. I considered enlisting after I finished college. I was going to be able to go directly into officers training because I had a degree. I checked on the pay and was discouraged. I made more doing what I was doing for a living at that time.

Like I said earlier - mercenaries - oops, I mean private security contractors get much more - especially if they have special forces training.

Hmmmn, I wonder if working for Halliburton or one of it's subsidiaries makes one exempt from the draft.

That's a ludicrous statement. All that supporting Israel has ever garnered the US is the animosity of a very large portion of the worlds population.

Actually I kind of admire them. They've continually managed to hold off every other nation in the area despite the extreme hatred of them by said nations for even existing and they seem genuinely unafraid of the terrorists that live in their backyards. They actually seem to prosper despite that cloud hanging over them. Every country that's attacked them, (read, arab ones), has had it's ass handed to them. I think that's pretty admirable. If their methods seem crude, oh well, they're effective.

i think it's too far gone, 2stroke. there won't be a draft, our army is large enough. and i doubt the gov't would like the face the mass uproar of disapproval from the population if they were to implement a draft.

yeah, especially since the new proposal calls on agreements between Canada and us, (no draft dodging now) and requires women to sign up for the draft too. (that last part is the only one I agree with).

Kerry served his time, which is better than Clinton did, he also ended up going to Vietnam which Bush didn't. Then he ended up turning into a hippie activist, (after using a loophole to come home early), who was totally against the war or anything that it stood for. NOW, after enjoying the millions garnered from playing pretty boy to rich women, he's COMPLETELY indecisive. Kerry has, over the years, gone completely against every single thing he ever stood for. Wow, what a good president he'd make! To top that off, despite saying he's for the little people, he'll be one of the richest, if not THE richest president in history if elected and enjoys any number of mansions around the world while not on the campaign trail. Yup, he'll pass reforms for big business all right... if anything, he'd benefit more from not harnessing big business than Bush would/has! Oh! But wait! N.O.W. would be goint apeshit because it wouldn't be the richest PRESIDENT in history, it'd be the richest FIRST LADY in history, N.O.W. would be eating that up and using it to their advantage at every turn possible. As for the war in Iraq, I don't know what the hell his mindset on it is, (at this particular moment), but I can guarantee you it's not the same view it was yesterday or the day before, he seems to change his mind a lot after all. My logic is simple. I contend that Bush and Kerry are as equally corrupt as politicians go, except that one of them has the power to make a scared Congress do whatever he wants, like paying Iraq's interim government 3.5 million a year, as US jobs go overseas...or go to war, sacrificing young Americans for a lie.

I doubt if Kerry will have that kind of "pull" in a Republican Congress, which makes me feel better.

I'm not hedging on either one to make it "better", just counting on the one that won't make it worse.
