Tow Damage

I recently had my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee towed by the city.
After picking it up I've come to find out that it had alot of expensive damage. I had to replace the transfer case and left front hub and bearing assembly. I'm planning on taking the tow company to small claims court and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this same dilemma and has any info that would help.

Heres what I do know:
It was lifted from the rear using dollies ( not witha flat bed tow truck)


p.s. does anyone know how dollies are installed?

Im not sure how the dollies are installed, sorry, but it's gonna be tough to win a case against the city.

How do you know the towing company used a dolly to pick up the front wheels off the ground? Did you see them tow your jeep? If you did not, someone might be telling you a fib!

If your jeep was operating properly before it was towed, it might indeed be something was damaged when it was towed.

I would go on the premise that it was working properly before being towed and when you picked it up it had problems. And to you it was obvious it was not broken before it towed. And that you feel the city and the contractor towing company, should be liable.

Get an estimate for repairs from a jeep dealer. And on the repair estimate, ask if they would jot a statement as to why the drive tran was broken. If it was caused by improper towing , that should support your cause.

If this is your only mode of transportation, I would also seek rental car reimbursement for the amount of time your jeep has been broken.

You can win with city hall. Just keep your cool, be polite and state your reason for feeling it was the towing company’s fault.
