exhaust issues

a got a v6 mustang and want to put a dual exhaust on it. What do u guys mean when u say a true dual exhaust and a mock dual exhaust. Is it true that u loose low end power with a true dual exhaust?

True dual exhaust means you will have two separate exhaust pipes, one from each exhaust manifold, going all the way to the back of the car. Fake dual exhaust combines both manifolds at one y-pipe and then splits them at the back of the car, this makes it look like dual exhaust but is more restrictive because of the two "Y" pipes used to join and then split the exhaust. Also you obviously have the same flow potential in two pipes as in one much larger pipe, which can cause clearance problems.

A crossover pipe (H-pipe as used stock on V8 mustangs) will also gain some power by equalizing the pulses in a true dual system. I would expect that in this same respect it allows the exhaust pulses two paths(through two parallel mufflers) and therefore decreases restriction, so you might want to consider that too.

Also, it's a huge cause for discussion, but IMO your exhaust should flow as much as possible, I do not believe that it causes low end power loss. Now if you go putting on headers then it's a different story. Headers have the greatest effect on your power band. Header tubes should be very long on the street, this is the "tuned" section of your exhaust. Long tube headers will keep your torque band down at streetable levels, while shorty headers are most effective at 8500 rpm(just an approximate), not very useful at all, especially on a V6.

i heard that equal length headers are good if u have some mods, and if ur engine is stock, unequal, but this if for a v8, 6 might be a different story, dont know.
