valve ticking: need ideas

my valves are ticking. what are some possible causes and solutions. thats about all the information i know (no mechanical experience)

Easy fix... first check oil level... if good, valves are easy to adjust. need feeler guage, hanes manual from auto parts store ($13.00) and that will walk you through step by step. Overhead cam engines are done by simply removing the valve cover and MAKE SURE THE CAM IS IN THE CORRECT POSITION IAW the book. There are marks on the cam sprockets, and check and adjust the lash between the cam and rocker for each valve.... intake valves are different from exhaust clearences.
