Help! 1997 Won't start & dies while running!

Someone Please Help Me!!
I have a 1997 GMC Jimmy that won't start unless the dashboard signals come on. It took 2 hrs to start today. If the signals don't turn on, the engine will rev but won't turn over. It's left me stranded countless times.
When it does run, sometimes it will just die, no smell, no sounds, nothing; it just stops running. Then I can't get the dash lights to come on again and I usually get stuck in intersections for about 30min. I'm really scared to drive it.
Can someone please help me or at least tell me where to begin. I'm going to lose my job if my car doesn't start getting reliable, and fast.

It turned out a one of the wires conected to the battery was loose....I just tighened it up and no more stoppping in the middle of intersections...Good Luck
