Insurance Question and vr6 comparison

I am new to the AF board but only in post count. I have been reading these forums for a few months now. Just gathering information on cars that I like and topics that interest me. I have read all the flame wars Domestic vs. Import, Mustang vs. Comarro, Rice Rice Revolution, and a lot of engine information as well. So far I have only read good things about the vr6 :) and I like the way that Volkswagen styles its cars. For these reasons I am thinking about buying a Volkswagen as my next car.

I have around $5000(6000ifneedbe) to spend on my next car, but the only reason I need a car is because I totaled my 93 accord driving home from a friend’s house at 3:30 in the morning. I was the beer pong champion that night and I blew a .118 and 5:20 in the morning :nono: , I was charged with a DUI. So now I am 19 year old guy with a DUI, am I going to be able to afford any of the cars that are on my list?

I like the vr6 engine rather than car model but the models I like are:
Jetta vr6 the box style ones 1 generation removed
Golf GTI with the vr6 engine
Corrado vr6

What do you guy’s think of then engine, and what would be the best possible route for me to take with my money. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
