Boring the cylinder is increasing the diameter of the cylinder increasing engine displacent. For instance, a 302 bored .030 over stock comes out to be a 306 displacement wise. Of course you will then need larger pistons to match the bore size. So what's the point you ask? MORE POWER!!! :evillol:

Boring an engine .30 over to get 4-5 cubes or whatever it comes out to be is an expensive way to try to get power. Boring cylinders are not about getting more power through increasing displacement. Boring comes from rebuilding old engines that the cylinders get worn out of spec so the only way to get a proper seal between the cylinder walls and piston rings is to cut new cylinder walls. The piston rings and cylinder walls sealing is a lot more important to power than 4-5 cu!
