Skylines from 1996-up currently cannot be legalized for use in the US. This may change in the future. Just stick with your VR4 for now.

Vquick.... I hate to burst your bubble but I'm importing a 1996 Skyline GTS-T Type M hopefully before this school year starts. I just need to get the money for shipping

ok to put even more damming evedence against your post Vquick I just got off the phone with Motorex and told them my plan and they said they 96+Skylines CAN be Imported it'll just cost a whole lot

I think that there must be import restrictions that differ between the GTR, GTS, and the GTST. I think that what VQuick was saying applies to the GTR. I could be wrong. I was one other time. I bought a pencil with an eraser on it once.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you need to get back on the phone and see if the car can be made legal or not.

Legalizing and importing are two very different things. Like I said earlier, this may change, so hopefully you'll get a different answer.

VQuick when I called MotoRex I asked if all the versions of Skylines could be imported AND legalized, the guy I talked to said yes. So I did check my facts, like I said before sorry to burst your bubble

That is not possible. I called motorex the other day to ask when the OBDII stuff would be done and they said give them another 2-3 months. They can be legalized.....but not at this time. They havent figured out how to change the OBDII yet.

Thank you. Tyndago aka Sean Morris(Used to work with Motorex, now with RB Motoring), isn't posting here much nowadays, but he is still at Freshalloy.com. Over there, he hasn't said anything to the effect that Motorex has figured out how to get around the OBD2 issue for 96+ Skylines yet.

Not ALL versions of Skylines can be imported an legalized. The car that started this subject cannot for one simple reason. It's a four door. That's what stopped mine from going back. When JK Motoring crash tested the Skylines for Motorex, they never crash tested any four doors. So, if you want to get a 4 door imported, you have to find an RI that will do the mods, at least one crash test (obviously means you have to import 2 cars at least) and get the car legalized. All I can say is good luck and I hope you have a big bank account.

i heard from a the DOT and motorex, that you need to crash test 3 of the same model cars to get exact results for charting what needs to be done. so...4 cars minnimum.

Mine is a 2 door Skyline so that at least helps me out a bit

But still not the fact that its OBDII. Still cant be legalized. Give motorex a couple of months and they should be good to go. They said by the end of this year OBDII will be figured out.

No oi-boy is right its 600 to 900 dollars to ship reguardless of who you buy the car from even though I'd rather get shipping included with the price of the car. its the tarrifs that kill you.
Customs sucks.

having the shipping price included in the car price would be nice wouldn't it? But no japanese used car dealerships have to charge extra:banghead::swear:

Well im sure there are places that include shippin just we havent found any yet lol. May be in 10 years. but hey 600-900 isn't gonna kill you after all if your importing you obviously really want the can or else you would be buying some POS around the corner. 900 is a small price to pay for the (not moded car of your dreams) aka the skyline.

Skyline4Life

yup yup. $900 isn't much to pay in the long run. having a badass ride that you own will always outweigh the price of things

My son is looking at an early 70s Celica to drop a 2JZ and drivetrain into. This would be an ez ship and register car that would be AWESOME on US streets and highways. 60,000 yen to ship! Registration would be a breeze.
