Hy im considering purchasing a 1998 GSR and I was wondering what would be the best set up to achieve 295hp to the Crank with a NA set up and no nitrous. I do plan to work on internals since its farely cheap but I need a game plan and a list of parts that would work well with one another to reach my goal. And also how much compression can these engines take? if I cant reach this goal or its just pointless please let me know it might just be smarter to build the internals for a turbo set up, I just want incredible engine response aand I cant stand turbo lag.

then just go with a supercharger then man, it will be cheaper int he long run to get that 295 your talkin about and you wont have to go turbo..I always push the vortech but not many can afford it..including myself if i was looking im sure..Just check out the jackson Racing Supercharger with the large pully.
As far as other things to complement you I would go with an AEM Cold air (CAI), A DC 4-2-1 ceramic header,a good quality exhaust of your choice and a test pipe in place of the CAT..you can always put your cat back in come inspection time, those high flow cats suck. You could always throw in a good set of aggressive cams like the Toda spec B's or the JUN stage 2's with a set of skunk 2 titanium springs. throw on a set of cam gears like the AEM or the Venom's and if your not going supercharger set the timing forward a lil bit. this will start getting you on your way...but honestly if you wanna get up around 300hp without throwing all kinds of componants under your hood, then check out that Jackson i was talking about, intake, the exhaust, header and the test pipe and you will be happy...always could throw those cams in later too

its just really hard to get 300hp from a 180hp honda motor with throwing some boost thru it. Its a matter of physics and it takes alot of time, tuning and cash to fight it !

On a daily driver it won't be worth the lumpy idle and you'll have to run 100+ octane on every fillup for the ~12:1 compression you'll be running.
Possible? Yes.
Practical? No.
Boost the mother.

this is true, but if he wants 300hp without going turbo ...theres always a price to pay ..

uh, I know, and with the insane cams and high compression it will have to be for racing only.. Ever driven a car like that? I assume not.. but while idling, the car will feel real lumpy and give you a nice massage. If you hit the gas a little to go forward, then let off, it's really jerky. That's what I mean by it won't be a good daily driver.

I have crower 3's in my sol...i know, but somepeople like to rock at the light for some reason..to each is own really ! I dont think the stage 2 is that nasty of a cam but perhaps a stage 1 or toda spec A's would work better...either way im not here to argue just throw opinions

Bore it over, raise compression to about 12.3:1, Toda Spec 3's with matching valvetrain, Skunk2 IM, AN-R header, Hondata tune it should get you close and be very streetable on 93+ octane. As long as you have a good clutch, it should retain a very drivable feel, and not be to bad in twn. Naturally it is going to be a little different than a stock engine, but I know several people that are running similar set ups with no problem as dailys.

exactly, mines a daily driver. I know a few other people running really aggresive cams, as long as you have good head hardware to support it and a good ground hook up..your fine ....i still think he would be happier if he went with a mild super
