Celica 81 engine stopping

If you drive the Celica 30 or more Klms stop the engine wait for about 10 mins & go again it will then only travel about 250meters. Opening the bonnet & there is no fuel in the fuel filter. the only way to get it started then is to pour some fuel in the carby. It will then work no problem. I put on an electric fuel pump, changed plugs, leads filters, & points to no avail.
Anyone got any ideas.
