Yes the transmissions are completely differant...

The SIR1 is just the cable style, where as the SIR2 is the hydraulic kind. If you have a hydraulic transmission now ~ go with the newer SIR2 as converting to the older system will end up costing you about the same ~ not to mention you are getting an older motor vs. a newer one...

Actually, the EF Civics were unoffiially marketed by Honda as a SiR and SiR II. SiR II had the LSD and ABS options plus a leather steering wheel. My mechanic owned a 4G SiR II in Japan (he was a honda mechanic). Both were cable gearboxed.

When the EG came out, it was also listened as a SiR II and was hydraulic clutched although it was generally referred to as an SiR (no II).

Maybe in "Japan" it is referred to as just an SiR ~ but since in the states BOTH are imported... the 88-91 is referred to as the SIR1 and 92-95 is referred to as SIR2

Which simply means that you yanks are wrong yet again! :finger:

:D

Dejox is spot on, there was an SiR and an SiR II version of the EF, there was also an SiR and SiR II version of the EG.

If you want to seperate the differnt engines from the EF to the EG then call them a B16a and a B16a2. Although Honda dosnt officaly call the later 170hp version of the B16a the B16a2 if you goto a honda dealer over here and ask for parts for a B16a2 they will know what your talking about.
