Jeez! I should save up all my money and just buy every one of this guys items. Build the freaking car myself. It makes me very very curious on why he would want to do this. Maybe he's taking off weight and planning his own top speed run to try and break 240 or something.

Weight plays very little role in top speed capability. The main factors become absolute power and drag coefficient, along with proper gearing of course.
I've bought several things from 'rapidrocket' off of Ebay and have always been very pleased with the products. He doesn't own an F1, but had a close relationship with McLaren Cars apparently.

carefully..
make it a worldwide search, enter mclaren, but in words to exclude you need all sorts of stuff, like 1:18, minichamps, mercedes, west, etc until you filter out all the crap.
wheel nuts interesting becuase of the 'official' letter, wonder if they did that for any other parts.

Anyway, it's cool if I lose. I mean of course I want something if I am bidding on it, but if someone else is willing to pay more for it then what can I say? I've exchanged some emails with him and he seems cool btw. Did you get the things that 'rapid rocket' was listing this time around? I kind of wanted the shifter and collar, but wasn't around to bid on them in the end. No biggee...
I'm dragging this to the top for one more reason:

A Gulf McLaren racing team jacket. Unfortunately it's an XL, so I would probably swim inside it, but maybe that's the right size for someone else here. Click the photo to get to the auction - the price is still very low.

I don't get it. Did the people at UT just make things up as they went along, because the picture I included shows just how inaccurate the front air intakes are (that's just being careless), not to mention a few other innaccuracies.
Also, I found this sound file of the LM accelerating at the same place I found the picture: http://www.iol.ie/~donohoer/F1_LM_sounds.wav

UT didn't tool up a separate body for the LM model like they should have. Instead, they simply used their existing GTR bodies for the two versions they made. Neither one is entirely accurate, but at least they didn't do what Minichamps did recently by creating a 1/43rd scale "LM" but labeled it the "GTR Prototype". :thumbsdow
http://i8.ebayimg.com/01/i/01/1e/28/c7_1.JPG
And again, not the inaccuracies - the small vent on the luggage door which isn't there on the LM, and the '96 GTR style vent openings in the front panel.

i brought an LM 1/18 of ebay, i think its 2nd version.. (ait intake on front is in the right place, but it doesnt have flarred front wheel arch)
on the box its labaled GTR, even tho it has LM decals on it .
so most LM auctions say GTR instead of LM, how could UT get this so wrong?
also i recently brought a dark green 1/12, i paid more then $800... a fair bit more... finding a 1/12 available for shipping to england that excepts paypal is kinda rare on ebay.

I was finding the prices of the models on English ebay too much, so started searching German ebay. They are much cheaper, so went for 2 1/18 road cars and an 1/18 LM. Still waiting on the LM to be delivered though. They where cheaper but the doors wouldn't stay up, a common problem with them. But i was able to fix them and now they stay in place when opened.

The first edition/blue box is more accurate. The second edition/gray box is basically a yellow GTR because the front air scoops are different, while the first edition only has errors on the tiny side air scoop and the exhaust I believe, but all the front air scoops are correct on it.
Edit: Here, for the sake of comparison is some pics of a 1st edition next to a 2nd edition. The one on the left is first edition/blue box, right is second edition/gray box.
http://minicar2.hp.infoseek.co.jp/picture/top515a.jpg http://minicar2.hp.infoseek.co.jp/picture/top515b.jpg
The rear lights, spoiler and all front air scoops are incorrect on the 2nd edition, but the 2nd edition does have flared front wheel arches and the exhaust, while not 100% correct, is better than that on the 1st.

Rough guesstimate: $1800 USD
Based on $750 for the Yellow, $600 for the Red and $450 for the Blue.
Of course it might go for a lot less since it's being offered with no reserve. Some things that will hurt it are the seller's '0' feedback rating, limited payment options, and lack of a detailed description.
I put in a bid for the maximum returnable amount from PayPal should the seller default after I pay. I doubt I will win, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Well that auction was ended early by the seller, so no record figure will be produced. :(
One interesting note is that he was the buyer of a dark silver F1 @ $1250 as a 'Buy it now' in mclarenmaniac's auction.

One other thing that is strange about this guy is he's selling a Renault Clio Sport V6 because he claims: "im selling cos im bord with the car,and i need the money" yet he started the auction at £80.00 with no reserve and the current bid is at £410. Something seems very fishy about this guy, compounded by the fact that he can't spell very well.

I didn't catch this earlier, but it does seem that he is trying to resell the one he bought from you:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60814&item=2243028899&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWA:IT
What is he doing???
He listed the auction at £50.00 with no reserve and after 5 bids it's sitting at £72.00. :screwy: :nono:
There's still 8 days to go, but I can't imagine the price is going to get any higher than what he paid, so it would seem he'll be throwing money out the window in the end. :screwy: Especially since no one is taking you up on your current "Buy it now" of $999 in this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=223&item=4208954210&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWA:IT
If you don't mind telling me, is the location he has listed accurate based on where you shipped that package? I'm tempted to bid on this one from him, but I don't want to end up the victim of a scammer given his odd behavior so far.
BTW: He added some info to his Clio Sport auction - "3 months old,and it a cute little car" :lol2: :lol2:
That auction is up to £2,050.00 now though. :screwy:

BTW: He added some info to his Clio Sport auction - "3 months old,and it a cute little car" :lol2: :lol2:
That auction is up to £2,050.00 now though. :screwy:

that first one of the 3:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14736&item=4200594045
that was me :)
i lost the auction but the winner wanted to wait 7 days to pay, so seller asked if i wanted it for $1200 (incl postage + insurance)
not often u see them with paypal available to UK so i brought it.
but then came the import tax... £223 of it! :banghead: the seller agreed to pay half tho.
so overall i was happy with the purchase, the model is in mint condition, the box has some bleaching from the sun but thats about it.
and values of these things are going up all the time :iceslolan

Congrats on the purchase, Rich! It is a very nice model.
I wonder how in the photos, he got the engine cover and doors to stay up. I do not believe they are supposed to stand by themselves.

Well his red one is still sitting at less than $400 USD with just about 4hrs to go, but again he has the low feedback rating and not so impressive item description which will hurt his chances to get big money. It might hit $500 before it ends if enough people are interested I guess.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60814&item=2242623262&ssPageName=STRK:MEBWA:IT
I think that some of the higher than average prices might be sparked by people who don't necessarily pay close attention to these items to know their value or that they really aren't so uncommon on Ebay.

Well, I don't completely agree with you there guys! :nono:
These models have increased slowly in value over a long period of time.
I agree that some of them are well overpriced, but then again they did cost approx $300 when they arrived also!
The only one who is "worth" the $$ is the silver as it is the model most people desire and therefore the do not re-sell it when purchased.
Lately it seems like the drksilver has gained more popularity. :eek7:
I sold 4 of these myself and still has 3 left in my collection.
I know Mclarenmaniac has sold quite a few also.
But, whay I'm trying to say:
The McLaren 1:1 is a overpriced car(don't get me wrong I LOVE this car), so why bother if the models of it is overpriced as well??
It's actually quite logical as this is the dream of many!

I'm not much for autographs - I have that print of the Clinic Model signed by Murray, Stevens and the photographer Curwood but that's it. The joy to me of getting an autographed item is really when you do it in person. I don't think I'd pay extra for something just because it was signed, but if I was planning to buy it already and the price was right it certainly wouldn't stop me.
The 1/43rd scale F1 road car linked from the previous page is sitting at $112 right now on Ebay with just an hour to go. I suspect it might go for about $140-$150 in the end and that will be $40-$50 more than they normally sell for.

Well, all those auctions for the 1/12th McLarens ended today from that seller igowhenugo who had "0" feedback. I did resist the temptation to bid in the end on those dark silvers he was offering as the prices were higher than I can afford to lose should he truly be scamming people. If anyone's interested in the auctions, here they are. I'll be checking them in a week or two to see what kind of feedback goes in each direction.
There are some record low prices here, which isn't surprising given the circumstances. Shown are the description, final bid price, number of bids and the end time.

I would easily buy all of them from a seller with some decent feedback.
The people who bought them were lucky if the person proves to be honest.
I would never trusted this person judging from the overall look of things!
In this case my "fraud" alert gets activated..... :nono:

I've have to say again: I wonder why on earth a person who has 20 1:12's would sell them ALL at he same time??? :eek7:
That's a VERY poor selling-strategy as all those similar items drag the price down on eachother! :disappoin
He has to be desperate if he proves not a fake :screwy:
I'll be watching these auctions as well, if positive feedbacks start to pop in, some things are to good to be true!

Yeah, and why no green or silver?!?! I would have bid on those.
Actually, I had a £325.00 bid ready for the second to last one which would have been higher than what it sold for, but maybe not high enough to take the auction. In the end I chose to keep my money safe in my bank account.
Anyway, there were very few of the "regular" 1/12th scale bidders participating in his auctions which is quite telling. To those who bid and won, I wish you good luck. ;)

It would appear that our fears surrounding this seller were wise indeed:
This person's no longer a registered eBay user.

I don't know how many of the final bidders may have lost money, but I'm glad that I didn't get involved.
