ok even where i buy subs (downtown LA) the jl audio 12w6 (300rms) subs cost from $175-$200 each, i wuna know if its really worth the price u pay for it, because the sony p5's i got (i know they aren't the best) but they are loud, and they only cost $50, or if u guys can recommend me for any other subs that are GOOD that have like 300-500rms for a 12 inch (im tryin to say.. im willing to spend, just not too much, thats the reason for questioning the JL's)

Infinity Kappas are nice...and by looking at that list for your name I would go for the Scion, SE-R, or the RSX. :)

JL Subs are definately worth it if you want some hard hitting bass. I had 1 JL 12" Running off of a 300 watt bazooka amp it still made my front bumper shake. Its blown now so i got a kicker competition subwoofer. And that gives me more than enough bass.

thx MStout those 3 are my top on the list lol, and yea so many of my friends have jl's, i was starting to think its jus a fad.. heh i never really heard infinity subs, i've heard their speakers, n im guna buy an amp thats about 300 x 2, either PPI, kicker, or fosgate

Kicker or Fosgate are the two top of the line brands next to JL Audio.

JL is overpriced IMO
I don't like Kicker personally but some do
Fosgate made some good stuff back in the day, but all the current stuff sucks (except maybe for the hx2, but that's only for SPL competition IMO, it sounds like shit), though their new line looks promising
JL is good if you can find it for half of what the local stores try to charge (read: ebay), but then you don't have a warranty and you might as well buy from one of the good online companies and get something equivalent for the same price with a 2-3 year warranty. Check out www.edesignaudio.com www.respl.com and www.adireaudio.com

I agree completely with Sr20, you can get so much better for so less compared to JL

do you want loud or good sound quality (or both)?
what is your budget?

im more into like clean bass, im not sure how to explain, but when i hear JL subs, they sound clean, my sony subs, even tho they are in a sealed box, sound loud/messy, so did my JBL subs but in a ported, i think in terms of how loud, it would be in the neighborhood of 300 rms... so just any sub that is 300 rms with good sound quality, thanx
also does the volume inside the box matter? because in my sony box, its pretty big, and theres lot of extra room inside my box even tho the subs are in there, and some people have boxes that barely fit their subs.. jus wondering if it made a difference

The size all depends on the subwoofer. Boxes are meant to be sub specific, if generalized it doesn't sound very good. I would hit up www.edesignaudio.com (http://www.edesignaudio.com) or www.respl.com (http://www.respl.com) both companies sell straight from the warehouse to you. Great deals, great subs.
aznxthuggie

so i should match the size of the box to the specifications that the manufacturer of the subs gives me right? to get the optimum volume/quality?
Haibane

You can do that, or you can hit one of the guys up on here that knows how to make boxes and has WinISD or some similar program. Then we can tell you based on what you want it to sound like what will sound the best for your application.

chances are in the future, i will buy that one JL sub, the new one.. the 12w7? i think, that thing is HUGE, and im also going to buy their 500/1 amp, it seems pretty good, lots of features, lots of stuff u can tune, might seem a lil pricey.. not sure like between 300-400 for a 1 channel 500 watt amp, and i'll put the jl in a custom ported box, probably also from JL lol.. yea and all my speakers will be mb quart.. cuhz i really like the highs

Seriously though, hit up elemental designs, adire audio, or Resonant engineering first. All three of them can outperform the JLw7 with their newest model which goes up to a 15 instead of some screwed 13 size and also costs a lot less

budget?
If you're looking at a w7 and 500/1 pair I assume it must be large, but I'm asking to make sure. Keep in mind, the w7 sucks a nut at anything over ~50hz, it just sounds crappy. If you want to get it, and you want all frequencies to actually be audible and blend somewhat well, you will need a VERY strong front stage, as in multiple sets of components or custom ported door pods for a single set of components.
I would look into a shiva if I were you, it will work well off of 300rms. But if you have the budget for a w7/jl amp then you have the budget for a xxx/1500+ watt setup though, which will sound better and get MUCH louder than the w7/500x1 setup.

What you want for now from what you are talking is a shiva. It fits perfectly for what your describing and is a GREAT driver. Its only 125 and shipping should be only 10-15 from adire. It will outperform any JL except for the w7. Instead of a w7 go with a brahma 15 from adire or an xxx from re. The hifonics brutus 1500 is a popular amp for these and they aren't too expensive.

actually the shiva is 125 shipped from just about all of their retailers ;)

wtf is Shiva? Ive never heard of it.. Buyer beware.. dont bother buying junk cuz it will cost more in the end.. Buy th JLs and slowly build up. You will end up spending less.

The shiva is a large box 12" sound quality sub made by Adire Audio, one of the most well respected speaker manufacturers out there.

Eric, no offense, but please don't come on here trash talking companies you have no prior knowledge of. JL is inferior to these. Mainstream=pos

wow... sorry guys, I have honestly never heard of Shiva.. where is the company based? Maybe cuz Im from Canada and it isnt offered here. I dont know.
I did not mean to trash talk Shiva. I was just saying to beware, and to stay away from low-quality speakers.
BTW, no offense taken, I simply stand corrected

Yeah it's up there, but it won't beat out the w6v2 or the w7, then again it shouldn't be able to for the price. But for the money it is a VERY good sub.
