I have a 1991 Civic DX hatch and am looking to get a new engine. I currently have the D15B2 (auto trans) and am looking or would like to swap in the D16A6.
I saw in the FAQ that the D16A6 can just be swapped in with out changing the mounts. Does that also mean that none of the electrical needs to change? I'm a retard when it comes to the mechanical aspect of cars, I'm more an audiophile :naughty:
so what i'm basically looking for is if that swap can be done with my existing transmission.
any help, even, "dude you're a fkkin retard" is fine. I'm just dying to get my baby back on the road:-(
thanks

Auto tranny, auto Si computer. (it will be tough to find, but they're out there)
KoRnSaQ

And you will also need to wire the existing DPFI harness for MPFI

And you will also need to wire the existing DPFI harness for MPFI
I found this on http://www.honda-tech.com .. is this what you're talking about KoRnSaQ?
"Installing a B16A into 88-91 DX
Wiring
Converting DPFI to MPFI
Unpin C1 à repin B10
Unpin C2 à repin B12
Unpin B2 cut add wire to go to the BLU-GRN wire on cyl position sensor then repin C1
Unpin B11 cut add wire to go to the BLU-YEL wire on cyl position sensor then repin C2
Cut A3 and add wire run it to #2 injector (RED wire)
Cut A7 and add wire run it to #4 injector (YEL wire)
Connect the YEL-BLK wire from the DX injector harness to the YEL-BLK wire on the injector resistor box.
Connect the YEL wire from the DX injector to the #1 injector (BRN wire)
Connect the RED wire from the DX injector to the #3 injector (BLU wire)
Connect the 4RED-BLK wires from injector resistor box to each injector
The car is now MPFI
Setting up the Vtec
A8 add wire for Vtec Solenoid valve GRN-YEL
B5 cut add wire for the Vtec pressure switch BLU-BLK wire
B19 add wire for Knock sensor RED-BLU
C8 cut add wire for second O2 sensor WHT (green plug)
The TPS has to be extended about 10”
The IACV has to be extended about 5"
The distributer plug has to be un pined from the Dx square plug and repined to the B16 round plug. (do this one wire at a time, matching the wires correctly.) There should be 2 extra wires left on the B16 round plug these are for the wires coming from ECU pins C1 and C2.
There is one plug from the Dx harness that does not get plugged in it just hangs there. it gets unplugged from the back of the throttle body on the Dx.
Also Be sure to switch green/white and yellow/white wires on TPS."
Is that what I would need....less the Vtec, or would I also need to do the Vtec wiring conversion?
And to SiZ:"auto Si computer."
do I need a new ECU or can I just replace the chip? The Pm6 is the manual trans ECU correct?
remeber folks, if my questions sound juvenile....i'm no mechanic, this is all new to me :iceslolan

what's wrong with ur engine? if there's something wrong with it and ur just looking for a quick fix, then you can just keep ur DPFI and put in the si engine.

ok, here's my story
the only thing wrong with the engine is the head gasket needs to be replaced. the real problem is i had gotten into an accident. in trying to avoid colision with a car that had started doing 360's on a icy road, i slowed and started to slide and the other car swung around and we connected and I was flung across the road and into the guard rail. The lower lip of the guard rail was the exact height as my driverside headlight/corner lense and smashed them, the bumper, front fender and bumper filler. SO that whole corner needs work. I can get all the cosmetic parts really cheap, but i need to get minor frame work done.
So, If i was going to go through all the trouble to fix that I figured I'd see what kind of engine i could get and have put in for like $1200. I priced out having the head gasket fixed (around$600) but am able to get the D16A6 for around $800. I'm just weighing my options and trying to see if I can get a little more pep in the process.
she's my baby and we've been through alot and I'm not ready to give her up yet. I have some money saved up and have come to the decision to make my civic like new instead of getting another car that i'm not going to be happy with.

Auto Sis exist, I've seen them with my own eyes..
http://www.auto-transmission-parts.com/automatic_transmission-honda-cvc_si_002-parts.html
And yes, replace the whole ECU.. Try searching on www.car-parts.com or something.

800$ for a D16A6!!!!!????
you can pick them up for like 300-350$ without the tranny! if ur just looking to get ur car running, just go and get another D15B2 or A6 for like 200 bucks.

I don't think Honda will have anything on their site about a car they made 14 years ago.
