I have a 1998 Galant ES, I was testing some wires to see if there was current on them(the light on the center consol, next to the lighter). Then after taking the tester of(there was electricity). I stripped the wires a little bit more, then tested them again but then I got nothing. I tried turning the lights of the interior on but I get nothing. The Headlights(low and high beam) work, the break and reverse light work, the clock works, the car starts, AC works, the dome light works, cigarette lighter works, just the gauge lights, the lights on the center consol, the radio don't work and the city driving lights dont work either, I looked at most of the fuse's to see if one of them might have burned but nothing, all of them are in working condition. So my question is, if anyone might have an idea of what might have happened and what I can do to get the lights that aren't working(gauge, center consol and city driving lights) as well as my radio working back again.

I am having the same electrical problems with my 98 Galant with the exception that my radio works. I checked all the fuses and none are blown. It started happening a couple of days ago. When I turned my headlights on, I saw that I had no dashboard, instrument panel or rear lights. These would all come on when I stepped on the brake. By the next day that stopped working too. My headlights, brake lights and backup lights are all OK. I am baffled as to where to strat looking. Any help would be appreciated.

I have same kind of problem with my 87 Galant.
One day I saw that my rear lights and rear number lights were gone. There is also no light at the instruments panel (speedometer and such) and also no parking lights. Somebody told me that the problem may be in the main switch. On 87 Galant the switch is round, i don't know if the 97 galant uses the same switches. So I am looking for the help with that problem too.
