Best Mercedes Engine Swap Candidates?
I own a 1973 MB 280c and will eventually be looking at rebuilding or replacing the engine. Will a 450 or 560 Mercedes Engine work in my 280c? I've heard that any engine used in a w114/w115 engine will...but I'd like to upgrade to a more powerful bulletproof engine like the 450/560 v8 if possible. Please advise.

I am in a similar situation but on the other side of the world. Down here in Oz, merc bits are expensive. To get the rebuild I need (engine gearbox & exhaust) will cost A$15,000 about $10000 US.
The option I'm going with whihc will cost about $6500US is to transplant a Toyota 2jzGTE out of a Supra.
3 litre straight six twin turbo with 300hp at the rear wheels compared to about 130 for the 280 motor.
Would love to keep it all merc but can't afford it.
Once again good luck and find some european headlights for it the US ones are sooooo ugly.
