I have been looking at some cars and I cant decide weather or not to get a stick or an automatic transmission. I want a stick but they are hard to find for a good deal. I see so many automatics out there for a good deal? Which do you guys think is better?

What year are you talkin about?
Do a search.. I think we just had a big argument about this recently... In MY opinion, manuals are always more fun, automatics are faster.. If you want a manual, ide wait until you found one..

AMEN!!
Auto = Stick... same speed. It's your personal preferance. If you like to play within powerbands and choose...then stick, but if you like to raw dog and floor it, then auto. Either are cool, but IMO i'd rather have a stick. I like to play...

trust me, you wont regret stick... unless you untterly hate the idea of being busy while driving, less talking on the phone, eating, smoking, playing with the radio, whatever. If you just like to sit back and know you don't want to worry aboutit, then dont. But I suggest you get one.

go with a stick, im sure either wont make a differnce with as much low and torque the ls1 has but my work truck is a 98 nissan fronteir with the 2.4 4 banger and i can tell you that if i dident have a 5 speed i wouldent be able to get out infront of traffic... so the less torque you got the more you need a stick.....but with that ls1 its all up to your preference. personally i would go with the stick, gives you more control.

yea get a stick... ive gotten bored with my auto, im lookin into a t56, i think it would just be funner to run with a stick, i dont care as much about winning, or being the most consistent, well i do but id rather have more fun ya kno

But then it is a true feat when you become consistant driving a stick.

I just got a 1998 z28 with the six speed manual. It is so much fun. The only modification so far is a K&N air filter. I even tend to get good gas milage. About 26 on the hwy and 18 in town. If I can keep my foot out of it. I am 23 and the insurance is out of this world. $220.00 a month, it would have been the same auto or stick. I agree with everyone else go with the 6sp manual it is so much more fun.

I assume you are talking about a newer camaro. If this is the case I'd definetetly wait and get the manual. Not only are manuals more fun there are many performance advantages with the manual.
The newer camaro's autos are AOD, automatic overdrive, drain a lot of power, they have bad gearing, and they don't have as many gears as the six speed which allows you to put lower gearing in the rear. You should read Lingenfelters book on SBCs, he'll show you what I mean. He talks about his Golden Power Rule, "Residence Time." Manuals are the way to go.

Oops sorry for the Grammar error. I meant... newer camaros are AOD which rob a lot of your horsepower. AODs also have bad gearing... and so on.

IMO you really lose the "sport" in sports car with the automatic, it kinda defeats the purpose don't you think?

( Here I go again :uhoh: )
if you plan on doing any performance mods to your car then get an automatic ( unless you plan to put a rearend under the car that will live behind the manuall) Go put a set of sticky tires on that car and try to make it through the summer without shuckin that 7.5 ten bolt. That flimsy rearend tends to survive longer behind an auto.

you need to do a little more research buddy, you can't just throw lower gears in the six speed just because it has more gears to play with.
Automatics don't need as many gears as a stick because automatics do something called Torque Multiplcatian.
If you take your avrage joe ( None of us are professional drivers) and take identical camaros with an auto and a camaro with a stick and let him do three passes in the cars, the automatic will be consistanly faster

To save on gas I try to remember to use the "skip shift" or I just skip a ger myself, you gotta do what you gotta do... and I use 6th instead of 5th on the highway.

I f u go with a stick u have to worry about the clutch crap though, but if you know what ur doing and have the money go stick i did. Make sure the clutch when u buy it is good, because u don't wan't to spend all that money buying it and then on a clutch.
