Question about outer CV boot replacement

Has anybody change their outer cv boot? How long did it take? I got a new boot (not the split kind) for my my car. What would be the easiest way to change it? According to Haynes Repair Manual, I have to to remove the whole driveaxle just to change the boot. And to do that i have to mess with the damper fork, lower control arm and other stuff. Do I really have to go through all these steps, or is there an easy way?

thanks

What do you guys think about the "split boot" as my replacement? Where can I get one of those?

Sadly enough you Do have to mess with a few things. I just changed out my entire cv axle on saturday. The way I do it goes a little something like this. remove the tire, remove the HUGE nut that holds the axle in the middle of the spindle, unbolt the upper A arm from under the hood (2 nuts) then push end of the axle out of the spindle and then try to swing the whole spindle out of the way. It takes a little twisting of the end of the CV axle but you can get the whole CV axle out that way. Thats how I do it. I have never heard of a split boot.. But if you can put it on without having to take apart the CV axle i would go for it.
