no spark

my niece had her 91 2.2 cavalier dropped off at my house for me to fix. i have no experience working on chevies so i could use some help.the car has no spark what should i check and where are all the ignition components? i did notice that the distributer is in the back of the motor and i can only get to it from under the car. could it possibly be the control module?
