remote turbo system

the sts remote turbo system goes on ur exhaust ( www.ststurbo.com ), eliminating the need for intercoolers, manifolds and all... they use t3s from what i read, so is it possible for me to make my own remote turbo. i have a t3 lying around, never bothered to install it becuz im plannin for an engine swap and didnt feel like buying the manifold/intercooler etc.. so is it possible/difficult to build something like that?

you could technically make your own, but the remote turbo system is useless. first off, whatever boost you make you will end up loosing in the piping it to the front of the car. second, it makes a very complicated process exponentially more complicated. not to mention the hassle of routing all the oil lines and such. finally, do you really want a 1200 degree turbo charger two inches from your gas tank?

Ive got a turbo Supra so I kinda understand how turbo's work, your engine doesnt have near as much backpressure near the tailpipes as it does off of the manifold so its going to take longer to boost up.. plus, the little boost pressure it did make wouldnt make it all the way back to the engine.. Not to mention, the cars are low enough, a speed bump or curb could crush or tear your piping (as it has so many exhausts) or your oil cooler lines.. One big benifit I can see being under the car, is that its exposed to ambient air, so it probably runs quite a bit cooler.. I know the turbo on my supra creats a bad hotspot on the pass side of the engine that could be eliminated

However, ive never known anyone whos tried one.. So who knows.. I could think of better investments?

i was thinkin about that too... not the smartest place to put a turbo.. they say it stays cooler under the car though. goddamn 4th gen has so little room under the hood, i dont know how the hell im gonna fit an intercooler and piping in there... can barely fit a wrench in there. maybe if i could move the radiator closer to the front, might have to cut some shit out...

you can fit a T-88 into a fourth gen camaro, its possible, ive seen it. you move the radiator support and radiator forward as far as you can, fab up some custom exhaust pieces, and get the bumper off of the 4.5 gen camaros(98-up). you would also need a tubular k-member and bumper, and the turbo sits right in front of the engine between the rad and the block...

well i dunno guys, i didnt see it in person, and the vid was kinda grainy, but there is apparently a twin turbo setup for a fourth gen, and it fits under the hood, ligenfelter fabed one up for the vettes, and it aint much less crowded under that hood than ours. so its very doable, and i cant imagine why all that fab work would be needed to make it work.

Take it from me. I've had the STS kit on my car for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier. All the rumors about loosing boost through all the piping and turbo lag are not true. I dynoed my car at 410 rwhp at 5 psi. The kit was easy to install and is reliable. The best thing about it is the car acts like a daily driver if you keep the rpm's below 3000. And, the kit can be removed anytime without the purchase of new manifolds, etc...
I understand why you guys are skeptical, and so was I. 89Iroc&RS raises some good points, but chevyracingcamaro is a complete idiot and douche bag. The things he says absolutely don't make sense. If you have any more questions about this kit, feel free to ask me. Again, I hope this doesn't turn into a flame-fest.....

Old thread, I wonder which mod will close this one down first?

I thought I'd revive an older thread rather than starting a new one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that mods prefer you use the search feature and keep a thread active rather than just to keep making new ones.

Actually I would prefer a newer thread made , that way our newer/current members can share there opinion on the subject. Thanks
