2001 Silverado stuck pads

Checked the front and rear pads on my 01 with 25,000 miles. They were stuck pretty bad. Had to drive them off the mount/slides with hammer and punch. Is this normal? I filed each end of each pad slightly so they would move freely on the slide surfaced. I also cleaned, with steel wool and WD40, the slide plates. Now the pads slide freely (but are not loose). Did I do the right thing? Also, the rear inboard pads are worn bad and so are the rotors. Those pads aren't worn flat either, they are worn at the inner and outer edge with a high spot in the center. The rotors are worn to match. I suspect they are worn too much to be turned. Is this normal? Mostly I'm concerned about having to file the ends of the pads and that they were stuck so bad. Thanks Dave.

I put rear pads on mine over the weekend when I changed my shocks.. anyways the rear pads fit pretty tight inside the slides or clips I gently tapped them in with a soft mallet, I put a bit of white grease on the slides to make the pads go in easier. You shouldn't have to file the ends to make them fit, with a lil light tapping I fit mine in. To take the old ones out I used a hammer and flathead screwdriver Gently tapping each end being careful not to damage the slides.
