96 villager problem reading codes

Hi,
I am not sure if the villager is more of a ford or a nissan.

My mother has a 96 villager with a 3.0L. She has had the CEl light n for a while and I remember my father telling me that the codes could not be read. I did not pay much attentention at the time but now that I have a code reader I thought I would look at it. A few weeks ago I read her codes and I managed to communicate with the PCM and there was 6 codes. I did not pay too much attention to whether they were pending codes or not.

Anyway I went to read them again and now I can not communicate with the code reader. It is as if the code reader does not even "know" I have hooked it up. The code reader works as It works on my car and my wife's.

My first thought is an intermiitant connection in the wire to the PCM connector but perhaps the communication protocol is suspect.

Has anyone heard of a problem with the Villagers or quests from 1996?

Thanks

No, haven't heard.....but I suspect that maybe there's a wire or clip that is not engaging or connected....what kind of reader do you have?

What you can do is go to the nearest AUTOZONE and have them do it. It's free!

BTW, the vehicle is actually more Nissan than anything else (engine wise anyways)

Thanks,
Don't have Autozones up here (Canada) I have a 3100E Equiis. It was taken in to a garage to try and have the codes read originally and they could not read them.

It may be a bunch of things....I would try the following.........remove the neg cable off the battery for about 5 minutes... this will erase any codes but will hopefully reset the computer; try connecting again.....Drive it around; if there is a problem, the codes will eventually come up again... and try it again
