I read in the paper that the grand am is being replaced. Im not sure if 2004 was the last year for them, or if 2005 will be. They are being replaced by a model called the "G6" which features a base 200hp 3.5V6, or a 240hp 3.9V6... and a 6-speed manual or 4-speed auto to start around 20grand. kind of a bummer.. but oh well.

Yea, I am hoping that a G6 forum gets started so we don't muddy up the Grand Am. However here is a link
http://video.preautoshow.primediaautomotive.com/video/mt_gallery/
that does a good job of covering the vehicle. It comes out this fall as a 2005 model.
The Grand Am will still be produced. Similar to situation with the old body style Chevrolet Malibu. However in that case the original vehicle was renamed to Chevy Classic and being sold for just for fleets.
I don't know what version of Grand Am will be sold in the 2005 model year and if it is fleet only as well. It might be used to fill in the gaps since first model year of G6 will be sedan body style only with 1 engine/trans combination.
We have owned/leased 3 Grand Ams in the past (1993, 1996 and 1998 models) and the next vehicle we am planning to get is a 2005 G6 sometime early next year when lease runs out on wife's Saturn L300. She only wants vehicles with heated seats and fortunately the G6 has them available.

The G6 is the next generation Grand Am I'm not sure why they don't want to call it Grand Am any more. But from what i heard on some auto show the G6 as it's called is the Generation 6 grand am which makes sense cuz the 1999-2004 are the 5th generation grand am's. my guess is that they want a new name and look so people don't just hear Grand am and think of a rental car.
