Track results tonight.

Went to the track finally. Still have some issues apparently but the car did ok I thought. Drove in off the street, and right into the staging lanes. Must have a hundred pounds worth of mandrel bends, fluids, tools, spare tire, and jack. Too lazy to bother taking it out. I was running on some 93 octane I got a couple days earlier. Left boost at a measly 20 psi, and played with timing and AFR. This was chads blown 60-1 smoking like a chimney.
The end result was a couple of 119 mpg passes. Didnt break 120 like I wanted to, but I was making good progress when the night ended so there's still hope. :) There was NO traction, and with the power I found myself making, I could hook up at all in 1st gear. Spun all 4 to 8k rpm rev limiter almost every time. I did manage one 1.7 before it got too cold, but the majority were 1.8s with the last couple clocking in at 1.9. So its no surprise the best ET was a lousy 12.2. At any rate, 119 would certainly be in the 11s for me with a good launch, most likely in the 11.6 range.
So needless to say the new short term goal is to hit 11.5 on pump gas and get booted from the track until I get a roll cage. That justifies a short vacation from racing while I get that done :D

Roll cage is anything under 12 seconds? That sucks considering how much money you need to hit 11's anyway. When are you going to get serious and use 118 octane, strip all the weight, and borrow some drag tires? :) 12.2 is still good, no matter if you were just messing around or not. Keep the info coming. :)

I'm pretty sure he was using chad's turbo in his car, so GSX. Note the 'spinning all four tires' :)

NHRA requires a cage at 11.99 and below. My track is IHRA though, and a cage is required at 11.49 and below. Ive already run 11.8, so there is only 3 tenths between me and another grand for a cage.
Drag radials or slicks would have been much worse! When it gets cold (I believe it got into the low low 40s, if not high 30s) the rubber compound on those tires gets hard and slick. None of the guys that run drag radials do well in the cold. One guy wont run below about 50 degrees, I'm assuming because he knows the car heads for the wall in third ;) So while they all run in the 1.9s or so I'm usually in the 1.6s even in the cold, since my all season tires have a lower temperature tread compound. I think the reason for my trouble last night is that the track just openoned, and the cheap bastards have done nothing to prepare the surface, as usual. After a couple big weekend events there will be some rubber down on it.
Launching with less boost in first is a tricky subject. The biggest concern is bogging. Trying to spool a 60-1 (or the M14, etc) in first gear is a lost cuase. So I launch with boost and prefer spinning the tires to keep boost up. But I dont think I ever hit full boost in first, definitely not if it bogs down. AWD is a tricky bitch to launch until its all set up. Another part of the problem is I havent launched the car since last june, the last time I had a clutch that would actually hold. :) So I have to get used to thigns again. I think I was just launching to hard, not slipping the clutch as long as I normally do.
I started at the usual 5500 rpm launch point, no antilag. As the night went on it became clear that there was no point in using such a high rpm, there just wasnt any traction. So I strated to lower it. Unltimately I ended up at 4000, with antilag engaged set to pull 15 degrees of timing. I got about 5 psi of boost on the stutter, and the lower rpm didnt hit the tires as hard when the let the clutch out. But at that point I Was babying the launch, and after each one I kcked myself because I knew it would have held. Hence the 1.8 and 1.9 on the last two runs. So that at least was a learning experience, and something I have been meaning to try all winter. Less rpm, and more boost.
The turbo takes a good bit of time to spool between gears still (.82 housng), so this week I need to get the No Lift To Shift (NLTS, stutter shift, etc) working, and that will drastically help the times once I get that all setup. I have to choose the correct rpm for that, as well as the antilag settings if I need to run that on the shift as well.
I would run the 118, but then its a no brainer. :) No fun in that. I want to get kicked out for the cage at 11.5, on pump gas. No one has any love for the pump gas. But last night was another learning experience. Found some interesting similarities between the two fuels, and I dont think some poeple are being honest about thier results ;) Next week I'm going to attempt to find the limits of the fuel on my setup, even it means knocking a bit, or lifting the head a little. It needs to be done, in the name of science :D
We'll see how long Chad lets me borrow the turbo, and how much longer my new one will be delayed...

i have to use race gas! or i can say bye bye to my motor!! exspecially with nitrous... hey kevin, have you ever thought about nitrous? that would be an easy way to get you into the 10s with race gas :naughty:! i hope i make low 12s with the RST next month, i'd shit if i broke into 11s (yea right)... but i still have yet to run the nitrous thru every gear, i still have to get use to the 100 shot :icon16:... and i just got some slicks from a friend and they are sticky as shit! so who knows! thats all i am asking for is low 12s then i am done with the RST, then i am going to try and beat it in the GST! but its not goin to be easy!

if kevin manages to get into the 1o's on a daily driven car with an interior and everything.. he'd be looking at some serious sponsorship possibilities! seriously... that is a goal that is usually only attainable in the F&F movies! Best of luck to you bro. maybe you could try a tank of race gas for fun just to see what it'll do for ya... after you meet your 11.5 goal on pump. I'd love to know how you made out.

Kevin doesn't seem like the guy that would accept sponsors :p Dunno maybe I am wrong...

Getting sponsered is cool, but its a pain in the ass. But I do get good deals from a couple vendors.
Looks like rain up here as far as the forcast goes... But I'm really tempted to run race gas wednesday night. Not full race gas, just a couple gallons in a 1/8th tank of pump just to take the edge off... :) But with temps in the 50s, if the rain holds out, I could actually get some traction and ET where my mph puts me. We'll see what happens.
The road to 11.5 (if I hit it) has been a long and difficult one. I ran 12.2 in the 2002 season, lol. So to drop from 11.5 to the 10s is going to be a ridiculous pain in the ass. But now that I have a tow vehicle I can stop driving like an old lady at least. I need to get off my ass and get DSMlinks stutter shift working (with antilag), that used to be worth a few tenths alone on the TMO chip and a 14b. Never mind on my next turbo....
