right now, i dont have power steering, i have a pump to put in, but no time, no belt, and no tensioner screw. for some reason, whenever i back out of my driveway, and turn the steering wheel to drive away, a grinding sound comes from the wheel. could it be a ball joint, or just the pump, or what. gimme ideas

I had that problem in my old car. I had needed a wheel bearing for awhile but never got it fixed, and it went to total shit after about a year. Ended up having to replace the tie-rod end, hub flange, and bearing. Cost a bit of change, but if you fix it now and don't wait a year like I did, you should be ok. I guess it was so bad when he lifted the car my wheel was about to fall off. :)
So that could be it, sounds exactly like what happened to me.
