Am having some difficulty here cant figure it out I have a 1985 535i automatic trans. I'll be driving along and it will just die. It wont restart again for hours, It has spark, has fuel pressure,no injector pulse, What could be causing this? Husband is a mechanic and is stumped, doesnt know where the pulse generates from can anyone help with this? Or suggest where I can find the info myself? This has been like the plague but it is intermitant, and after a few hours it will start right up no problem. Were going crazy in the desert :eek7:

Hi, Roberta-
You've got me stumped, too.
I suggest you try replacing the main relay. PM me your address, and I'll send you one.
I recently replaced a main relay, and it turned out that wasn't the problem, so I can send you my old one.

I had a similar thing that happened to my 85 528e I would be driving and all of a sudden the engine would shut off. It would start after setting for a little bit. It was very intermittant. A BMW mechanic told me to replace the computer relay and the fuel pump relay which is near the fuse box. If I remember right it was outside the fuse box. One relay is a four pronged relay and the other is a five pronged relay. The relays cost about 24 bucks for both. Let me know if it works.

My dealer in Santa Fe charged me $14 for the main relay and $27 for the fuel pump relay...and there are two fuel pump relays.
