your apex seal should be change when you do a rebuild of the engine . for 3gen need a rebuilt around 70 to 80k miles tha's if is not already been done.:)

yeah 70-80k miles is usually the breaking point for a 3rd gen, I've been through 2 already, cars that is not just motors. But its the water seals that go out on a 3rd gen not the apex seals. I have seen a couple of 3rd gens last into the 120k+ miles but they have been owned by older guys who probably have never felt the boost of the second turbo kick in. A rebuild was done on the last 3rd gen at 78k miles due to water seals failing and we reused the same apex seals with no problems, the kid that has the car now has put upwards of 18k miles on the motor and everything is fine. they should be good so long as the motor has never, and i mean NEVER overheated, and a visual inspection is usually all they need. If they are flat sided or have hair line cracks common sense is going to tell you not to use them. if you're in desperate need of a rebuild and apex seals don't fall into your budget you can in many cases get by without them. A professional rebuilder of rotary motors will be able to make the decision for you.
