Lock Cylinder Installation

I've opened the door panel, only to find that my window blocks the lock cylinder no matter how far up or down it is. Anybody know how to get them off and put a new one on? Also, would anybody know how to take the old connector wire and put it on the new lock cylinder. I came home tonight to find my brand new lock cylinder missing the wire that was once on it, and a cat that is MIA, and soon to be declawed, castrated, and sorry it touched my lock cylinder. Any help would be great. Thanks, guys.

I decided to wing it since even the Chilton manual couldn't help me with it. I found my connector wire at the locksmith or re keyed the cylinder. My installation was successful with a few minor problems, but all was overcome and it turned out to be a perfect install. Anyways, i figure if anyone needs to put in a lock cylinder in the future, i'll post how i did it right here:

1.)Make sure your windows are rolled UP all the way. Do not put your windows down at all.

2.)Take off door panel (4 screws, two on both ends, a 5th screw behind the inside door handle, and a 6th screw in the the pocket behind your window buttons). You can leave your door panel hanging, lying at your legs at you work. Better than hurting yourself and pissing yourself off by pulling the plugs out of the power window control box.

3.)On the back half of the door(closest to the lock cylinder), pull the water protectant sheilding paper away from the from the door. You should immediately notice the lock cylinder is blocked by a bottem extension of your window(that piece of window is gonna piss you off by the end of this installation).

4.)Depending on light, you may need a flashlight. Look closely for what looks like a silverish ring around the black cylinder holding the lock cylinder. Take something flat, and wedge it out towards the front of the door. Don't try to pull it completely off, because it's a bitch to put back on (problem 1 for me).

3.) Pull the actual lock cylinder from it's containing cylinder towards the window piece that's behind it.(You should only have to use a little force at most. If you the lock cylinder won't move, then the lock spring(that silver thing) isn't out all the way.).

4.)After pulling the lock cylinder outward, feel for an orange plastic piece on the lock cylinder connected to a rod, you should be able to see it semi-descently(to get a good look at one, look at your new lock cylinder). This orange piece sort of connect around the rod twice. The rod first goes through a hold in the orange piece, then another part of that orange piece wraps around the rod. What you must do is push the orange piece off so it doesn't wrap around the rod anymore. It will still be connected to the rod since the rod is in the hole.

5.) Pull the lock cylinder away from window piece, as it's easier to move around when it's not wrapped by the orange piece(it's possible to pull away from the window with the orange piece on still, but more difficult). It's safe to turn the back end of the lock cylinder downward as you remove it, it will NOT damage the rod.

6.) Push the rod out of the hole in the orange plastic piece.

7.) Remove the wire connector from the connection in the door.

8.) Remove the old lock cylinder.

HERE IS WHERE THE ACTUAL INSTALLATION BEGINS

1.)Take the orange part of the new lock cylinder and put the rod through it's hole. Guide the cylinder further down the rod until the lock cylinder is facing upwards. Place the cylinder betweent he cylinder and the container cylinder.

Note: look on the outside of the door before proceeding to step two. There should be a black ring in the hole for the lock cylinder. make sure that ring is there before putting the cylinder in. That ring, if removed, leaves the lock cylinder really loose.(Problem 2 for me)

2.)Guide the cylinder back up the rod as you push it in it's container cylinder. Make sure you DON'T push the rod off of the orange piece. The silver ring can be fully pushed in again. Feel for the plastic orange piece, and push it on the vertical part of the rod, wrapping it around it. Firmly press on the back of the lock cylinder to make sure it's completely in the container cylinder. If you can't push it in, make sure the keyslot is vertical and the orange piece is on the correct side of the cylinder.

3.) When it is completely in the container cylinder, connect the wire connector to the connection in the door. Make sure the wire is strapped out of the way of the window.

4.) Check the lock cylinder, make sure it works. When you put the key in, the cylinder should not be pushed back. when you twist the key, the door should be able to lock and unlock, and you should be able to see that through the inside door locks.

5.) Make sure everything that shouldn't be inside the door isn't in the door, i.e. flashlights and tools (Problem 3 for me), and press the protectant plastic back on the door.

6.)Put the door panel back on, installation is reverse of dissembly.

7.) Double check yourself, make sure you didn't forget anything, and that everything is working as it should.

There ya go.
