Taking mufflers off?

I have a 2000 grand prix gt and am considering taking off the mufflers because I want a loud, aggressive sound. A local exhaust shop will take off the mufflers and put a piece of straight pipe in. I was wondering if anybody here has done this and/or if anybody has opinions on this. soome of my other questions are Would taking the resonator be a better idea? will I have enough backpressure with taking the mufflers off? will it hurt the car in any way?

I dont think its going to hurt the car. Taking the resonator off and the mufflers might be to much. Cabin drone will be insane.

Why not get a cutout instead of removing the mufflers? That way you can still have it loud, but if for some reason you need not to be then all u have to do is cap the cutout.

i have naassty cabin drone with my system..no cat, no resonator, and mufflers you can see straight through. it is loudest(in the cab) at 2000 rpm doing 70. my dad says i'll be tone deaf before long. do you think it hurts my performance to have my setup where there is basically no restriction?

Believe it or not my wife wanted her GTP to be louder. The exhaust shop convinced her to try it with no resonator and no mufflers...it was too f***ing loud!!!! It now has dual Magnaflows and no resonator (cat still in). I still think the drone is irritating on a long trip...and personally I don't think the car sounds that good - only louder than stock.

For some people there is no such thing as too loud...maybe you're one of them.

I'll go with the cut out alternative. Then you will have the best of both worlds. You never know when you need to be quite for whatever reason
