cheap performance

I have done a couple of small things to my car that were free mods. I asked a bit ago if there was a EGR valve on a 90 teg but got no answers. I wanted to disconect it and block it off. I don't seem to be finding one and I have heard that the 90 didnt have one. I made a custom CAI for about $25.( it dont look pretty but it works great.) I also went in and rerouted all the coolant lines to the intake. I now have no coolant running into and out of the intake Thus, cooler air going in. I plan on Getting an exhaust cutout for the car because Im cheap and I want the car to look stock. All I will have to do is pull the lever and my exhaust will be dumped. I may end up buying a cheap header. I also got rid of a big power robber, my power steering. Now all the car is turning is the alternator and water pump. I may also end up buying a chip for the car.

Now, this brings me to my question. I would also like to start playing with the timing. I want to advance it. Is this wise and what should I expect from it? I belive there is a lot of capability with these engines with little or no money at all. We get ripped off with all this emissions crap and detuning from the factory.

If someone could also let me know about the EGR, that would be great. Maybe if you have any other free mods or very cheep mods, this would be a good place to list it. Thanks in advance.

All I did was took the belt off.

I will be getting rid of the whole thing very soon. I'll let you know how to do it as soon as I do it. For now, the belt is good enough.

1. Homemade hyperground wires. makes the engine rev smoother, slight better throttle response, but overall, idles better.

2. Check proper tire pressure, most people are low. you will get better gas milage.

3. If you have non gsr and advance timing use premium gas, if you have gsr then add an octane booster with premium gas. advancing timing will give better response.

4. If you plan on getting the chip, skip the timing advance, since the chip will advance the timing for you.

5. Use a higher pressure radiator cap, better cooling means better.

6. Change fuel filter and add fuel injector cleaner, will make car run good.

7. Adjust the throttle line so little slack, but not too tight or high idle. quicker throttle response, and or get weapon R throttle rotor.

I just bumped up the timing and I am very pleased with the results. I may be tinkering with the stock fuel pressure regulator to bump it up a bit. I think this is a fun project considering I am into the bigger motors on the domestic cars. I am also happy that I have next to nothing into the car for money. Hey my mods are not pretty but they seem to be making a difference. I will keep you all posted on the budget integra car. This should be fun.

how do you bump up the timing now?

The best thing for you to do is get a haynes manual and make sure you have a timing light.
1. loosen up distributer bolts
2. start car and hook up timing light.
3. turn the distributer just a little bit and watch your timing marks. I advanced mine by 3 degrees
4. tighten up the bolts again and take it out for a spin.
5. listen for any knocks or pings
6. run premium fuel

I would buy a manual for sure before you do it. It will explain it to you in detail rather than how I am on here. you can pick one up for $15 at your local parts store. I just read it every night and it gives me tons of ideas.
