Clunking noise while turning...

Good evening all,

I have had this problem for about a year now, and it gets louder and louder as time passes...

When the steering wheel is turned from straight ahead, I get a loud clunking noise from the front end that gets faster as I go faster in the turn. I can feel it in the steering wheel as well. Wierd thing though...the nose almost disappears when I take it out of gear (disengage the clutch). I have an '88 Integra RS 2-Door with about 229K miles on it (still runs strong!)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

clunking noise from the front end..i would think it would be ball joints...as for the sound stopping when u disengage the clutch...i have no idea

its your c/v joints on the drive axles.... check under the car by the front wheels, trace the drive shaft down to the rubber boot on the axle down near the tire... is it cracked, broken or missing? Thats your problem.

if it was your ball joints it would just clunk a couple times.... and more random. I still think its the c/v joints. when you disengage the clutch it takes the torque off the axle so it doesn't clunk as much.... thats why that happens.

sure 'nuff...the boot is torn...I guess Arizona doesn't like California transplants, considering I had those replaced 2 years ago before I moved...

I was planning on doing the brakes this weekend anyways...guess I have a little more to do!

thanx for the info!
