I have a 98 Firebird formula and I was wondering if it would be worth it to change it from an auto to a manual. I dont know much about cars so if its possible please tell me what you think it would cost, what all I would need to change and anything else you think a newbie like me would need to know. Also, I hope this isnt a 100% stupid question but i was wondering if its at all possible to have an automatic and manual car like the 350Z's. Can you all tell I dont know much about cars? lol. Any help would be appreciated. Please dont bash me for being so simple minded about this. Thx.

I asked that question too...most people say its not worth it to change. which is unfortunate because i would like to do the same thing with my 98 TA. And the manual/auto or steptronic is not made anywhere for firebirds but somewhere im sure u can get it customly made for a whole lotta cash

With an older car like my 69. it was no big deal going from auto to manual. Don't forget most automatics had mild gears like 2;73's and you need at least 3;23's for a 4 spd.. and 2nd generation trans swaps are easy.. but a newer car like yours that has a lot electronics.. It's not worth it.. easiest and cheapest thing to do is buy one with a manual.

actually the cheapest thing to do would be to get a shift kit like the transgo to make your car a manumatic where you have to shift it. it is doable to switch but very expensive. you need the pedals the tranny (t56 is not cheap) new rear end. and then to do it all yourself you would need more knowledge.
and whats so wrong with an auto anyways
