Removing rear deck on 97 grand am

hey i am replacing the read 6x9 speakers and i dont know how to remove the gray carpeting above them. ive looked it over and havent seen a way to get it off. it looks like the outside of the seating ahs to be removed but i cant get it off. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

in my '93, i had to replace the 6x9 speakers also.. and it was a task. my backseat was not a fold down, yet that needed to be down. I had to end up prying these metal clasps up in the trunk, that held the seat back.. with a hammer. pretty much bending them up, so i cold fold the seat down. from there, its pretty simple..just take off 2 or 3 buttons that hold the rear deck in place.. and then move that out of the way.. but im not sure about a '97. If your back seat folds down, then just fold it down & remove the deck.. but if not.. and you want to, you could do what i did. Only problem, its rough tryin to bend the metal clasps back down to secure the seat. good luck.
