Reliability issues

Hey guys I've very interested in the GTI 1.8 T due to its low end torque (vs a honda civic) but I've read horror stories about teh reliability and the built quality (mailny power windows and noises). From what I've read, the worst year is the 2001 model. My question is has VW fixed most of them by the 2002 or 2003 model?

I have a 2002 1.8T and it has had some problems.

I have gone through two ABS motors, the first was a recall, and after the second one there is a squeek in the dash that will not go away.

I have gone through two sets of ignition coils, these were finally recalled, but not until I had them changed out twice.

I had to have the passenger side window lift fixed after the window fell off the track and down into the door.

There have been variouse check engin lights related to the catylitic converter and ignition timing.

But even with all these things I still Love this car! It is fast, and fun to drive, and after 25,000 miles I have averaged over 25mpg with very spirited driving.

I have definatly had some problems, but it has all been covered under warrenty, and I have never been left stranded.
