Headlights won't shut ?

1991 Eclipse - my son bought this car with the headlights stuck open. We are wondering what needs to be done to shut the headlights.. any suggestions?

What do you mean by open? I don't really understand.

The headlights have a shutter. Apparently the shutter is stuck in the 'open mode' and will not go down. We can hear a motor sound when we click the button.... .but nothing happens.

I"m guessing it's a 1st gen... with the pop up headlights. the headlights could be stuck just from rust or something. or the motors could be fried. also they could be off track and not connecting with the headlight housing. have a look at those things. if nothing else works try taking it to a dealrship and asking them whats up

Yeah, my guess would be that the motors gone but you said you hear the motor so it might be the driveline is unhooked so the motor just spins instead of moving the shutters.
