Alright, so i made a mistake, i was never an import car person, im 17, have a good job, but have been spending most of my time and money on my firebird until time came for something newer, i test drove a fully loaded 2000 eclipse GS, the sportstronic shifter (i think thats what it was called) but anyway, that alone was almost enough to win me over, i also looked at my options with the 6 cylinder eclipse, though my insurance wouldhave skyrocketed, so i figured what the hell, I'll buy the 4 banger and beef it up, make it somewhat of a sleeper....well i got shot down pretty damn quick the first time i picked up a catalog or went online looking for performance parts, the car is fast enough stock to beat 90% of the cars driven by people my age...but i dont know if you could even really consider that fast, i had the car up to 130 with plenty of room left on my tacometer, just no freaking horses to push me there in a reasonably quick timeframe, and im sure most people can agree that there arent many performance parts made for 3g eclipses, not compared to most cars at least....let alone non turbo 2.4 liter GS eclipses, I would like 300 horses eventually while keeping my car reliable but i know it isnt likely, i would settle for pushing my car up to 200-250 horses, that would satisfy me, but i cant find barely any parts for my 16 valve 2.4 engine, most companies make alot of stuff for all but 3g eclipses, and the 3g parts that i do see are for the V6, so i figured my best bet would be to ask some people with more import experience how i can beef up my 4 banger GS

This site can get you started on your parts list. Thats the best place I can tell you to look. There isnt much out there that is affordable for our car, its going to be expensive.
The forum there is also very impressive. There is an entire section just for the gs.

wow! thanks skinut, as much as id like cheap parts, i know that making a fully loaded GS go faster then most GT's will be well worth it

Update...had a few minor bugs fixed, bought new tires and cross drilled rotors, i put the AEM standard cold air in, though one of the adapter fittings was wrong and since i didnt feel like driving back to summit racing i sanded about a millimeter off of my Mass airflow sensor output, though i know better then to touch the sensor itself or the comp so all is well, the cold air improved my pickup from about 4000 to 5000 RPM and i felt a minor improvement with everything else, also as a warning, i tried putting in a power tower throttle body spacer, its actually called a power tower, and just as a warning, the replacement bolts that are longer then the stock throttle body bolts, still arent long enough so i wound up taking that kit back, so just as a warning dont buy the cheap one, next is a higher flow header and im having a local muffler shop build a custom cat back exhaust for me, after that i think i might shell out the $230 for a performance chip, then dive into my engine and replace the cam, cam gear, pulleys, crank, port and polish head,...you get the deal, pretty much have my engine rebuilt with parts that can handle the strains of high, almost redlining rpm (which ive been avoiding) now that all of this is out in the open, does anyone else have any suggestions other then a turbo kit? im hoping the things i listed would at least put me over 200hp

Don't count on it. FYI, there is no performance "chip" for the 3G, V6 or I4. And your stock dyno by the way, you are looking for maybe 110whp at the wheels. With the AEM CAI, you are dyno'ing in the range of 115whp. You will never be able to hit 250whp naturally aspirated, trust me, I figured it out that it would take 3 times as much money to make a 4G64 put down 230whp out of the manual as it would to turbo the car with AAI's (Accelerated Auosports) turbo kit and at 8.5psi put down 264whp (on the manual) and around 230whp on the auto. By adding the GReddy E-Manage and getting rid of the FMU, and proper tuning, you can turn the boost to 11-12 psi for a daily driver and tote around in your 300whp car.

The 4G64 is made to take boost. Mitsu skimmped out when they did not add a turbo to the car. But with the 9:1 compression ratio, and the car has the 4G63 rods from the 2nd Gen Eclipse turbo.

Save your money and stop doing all these NA mods. For you to realistically hit 250+whp, you will need a turbo. And because the car responds SO well to boost, the only reason not to turbo is because of a lack of immediate funds. But if you save your money, it is really an excellent horsepower to dollar ratio.

There is also a supercharger made for the 4 but in a few weeks there will be a new product out that will make superchargers obsolete. It is an ecu that makes the turbo do the same thing as a super and doesn't make you wait for the boost. It will make boost as soon as you give it gas rather than waiting for high rpms. So don't waste time on headers when you want to turbo the bad boy. Also, port and polish with internals will help raise whp by 50-80 hp. www.gude.com

ever hear of a Roots blower? It gives max boost almost as soon as you hit the gas, from rihgt off idle to redline. And I guarentee that NO ecu in the world will be able to add 100+hp just by adding it in, like any supercharger or turbo kit does. It is just no possible.

I think you should read up on F.I, before you start making statements like that. www.fiautosports.com will give a good basic understanding of F.I. and how the items work. Click on the Turbos page and the Superchargers page.

just wanted to say thanks for all the input and that im sure alot of other people who want fast GS's will be able to use the info provided on this page, a few more questions, #1. anyone know what a stock GS Sportstronic runs in a 1/4 mile?....with a CAI? and #2 what are my chances of finding a nice 5 speed that i can have installed.....#3there is no 5 speed sportstronic...correct?....and finaly #4, do you think i would be better off finding an aftermarket cat back for my car or would it be a better idea for me to goto a muffler shop and have a custom cat back bent for me? if so what are some specs that i should insist on to guarantee good performance and a nice low growling sound? i f*cking hate ricers with exhausts that sound like the car has gas...(and no i dont mean fuel)

As a matter of fact you should eat your words cause the site you put up doesn't have upcoming shit like the ecu for turbos to cause instant boost. So I have my facts straight bitch, explore the internet and don't trust just one web site for all your info.

Please provide me some kind of link on the ECU about this. Based on how turbo's work, don't tell me that ECU's can provide exhaust gases needed to spool turbo's for instant boost.

I am not saying the ecu creates exhuast, I am simply relaying info from a source I found by luck really, about a product designed to make turbos react faster when the pedal is touched rather than waiting for high rpms to kick in. I don't know everything about it yet but trust me it will be known sooner or later depending on how much you research cars and technology into cars and engines

no way can any ecu do that ,the fuel system ,injectors, those would all need to be upgraded for those kinda gains ,or do you really beleive a intake can give 25% more horse power unreal

turbos are driven by exhaust gas so in less you are purgeing pressurized air in to the pipeing to speed up the spool time l dont see it ,lve been wrong before though

Eh Eclipse GT's arent that bad. *shrugs* just get a GTS and pop on a supercharger. I just hate the suspension in the new eclipses =\. Itleast the Celicas and the RSX's suspensions are half way decent.
